I think I've done something stupid… I've been fitting my gauges (standard Ultima round dials) and have been following the VDO wiring diagrams, but have begun to have a nagging suspicion that the CAI diagrams are the proper ones to follow. The big questions are, when looking at the back of a gauge, which terminal is + (left or right) and which is for the sender/sensor (left or right)? The gauges aren't marked as to VDO vs. CAI (what do those terms mean, anyway?), nor are their terminals marked (!) as to polarity and/or function.

At least I caught it in time to only have to pull two of them, not all five.

BTW, since I'm installing an "extra" gauge (oil temp) for my LS7, where should I get power, light power, and ground since there are no provisions for it in the loom? I've been thinking of splicing into the neighboring gauge's (oil pressure) wires. I've already run a wire for the oil temp sender to the engine bay.

So, how stupid was I?

VDO & CAI are the 2 gauge manufacturers Ultima use.
I believe VDO terminals are marked so if yours have no markings then they are CAI.

As you say with your extra gauge just daisy chain the power, earth and lighting from a nearby gauge. They use very little current.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I think I've got the CAI gauges and will have to swap two wires on each of the ones I installed the other day. Oh, well - it could've been worse!
