battery - whats best? suggestions please.

I found the Odessy PC1100 solution to be the best. I tried a Yuasa std one and an optima yellow top, but the PC1100 from the factory solved my hot starting issues.
Edit: Model number is PC1100 not 2100!

Aha - I also have the hot starting issue, a real pain when in Tescos and a little embarrassing to say the least - thank you I will source a replacement Although to be fair, this was my last resort. Its all about marginal gains. I rechecked all the cabling and reduced the voltage drop by half a volt by redoing connections and I also made a heat shield which all had incremental gains. So I'd advise that first. Since the PC1200 Ive never had to wait for it to cool before starting. But there have been a couple of occasions I thought Uh oh its struggling! Its an AGM battery so it you have a trickle charger you MUST have the right charger set to the right setting or you can damage the battery.
The last thing I can do is uprate the starter. I have a 1.4kw gear reduction starter which by all means should be up to the job. There are a couple companies that say then can make me an appropriate starter at 2kw for £300 roughly. But like I said, Its never failed since the battery upgrade!
Ive written about it on my FB blog somewhere:

The battery was the one thing that I hadn't checked given it always started fine cold and had been charged although not on a trickle charger - have had a look at the battery invoice and it's due for replacement - sometimes it's the simple things lol

Really mines an odyssey too, not optima, doh.
Out of interest, how have you been trickle charging it? These are sensitive and I killed my first one by trickle charging it on the wrong setting.
To be honest the battery was not high in my thoughts during the build and therefor was charged using a normal car charger when it needed it, ie when dead. I suspect this has not helped and coupled with age is causing the issue. I have however resolved the hot starting issue today by not having the low pressure pumps on when starting, still think a new battery is in order.Out of interest, how have you been trickle charging it? I charged normally on my first which killed it - there was a bit of teeny text in the leaflet that came with the battery saying to charge on the winter setting (on ctek chargers especially). Charging it normally had caused it to expand and crack.
Going back to your hot starting issue, doesn't sound right that you need to do that with your lp pumps though?

I have a Odyssey pc1100 & use a Ctek 5.0 trickle charger set on the car setting and not motorbike and never had a problem. The battery is rated at 45ah over 20 hours and the car setting on the Ctek is 14 to 160 Ah so I guess that means it is ok. My car does not have a massive drain of power when in storage, so as I am away overseas a lot of the time I just ask my father to put it on trickle charge over night after a very cold or damp patch in the weather or 24 to 48 hours before he gives the engine a run up to temp just to keep it ticking over in the winter months. It never stays on charge all the time and rarely for more then a 24 hour period as it is not required. If I have been working on the car starting and stopping it a lot using up cranking amps or fiddling with something electrical testing it with electrics on then I will put the trickle charger on also afterwards for a short period of time to top up the charge. On my charger instructions it says if it has not reached step 7 within a couple of days the battery has an error. Mine always reaches step 7 within an hour or so. I believe if the battery is not fully charged and you start using up massive cranking amps to start your v8 it will shorten the life of the battery quicker.
On saying all that all batteries do have a limited life span depending a lot on the environment they live & work in. So I am considering replacing it this winter so to rule it out of any reliability problems in the future.
