Discussion
I am giving some thought to tyre choice (the car has been sitting on old tyres during the build). For me, the Ultima is a dry weather car, and I want to fit the R888s.
I have two questions which I am hoping someone might be able to help with. To get the right front tyre profiile (35), the only width toyo do is a 255 (i.e. wider than the 245 standard). Old posts on this forum suggest that size will work, but I'd be grateful for a more up to date view if anyone has experience of this tyre.
Also, do you think I will have any trouble gettting the car through IVA - I am assuming not as it's a road legal tyre, but again would be interested in views.
Many thanks.

For checking tyre sizes, this is a good website: www.willtheyfit.com
Presumably a wider front tyre will increase steering weight and tramlining, although whether the R888 construction resists any of these tendencies, I don't know. There's a few others who have done wider fronts, so will be better positioned to comment

I have Toyos on my car. Be aware that R888's come in different compounds. I have the GG's (mediums). I don't do enough km's on the car to care about tire wear over time - just want maximum enjoyment when driving the car. Yeah bit loud on the road compared to road tyres but ... it's an Ultima. I don't really think that's relevant.
I had to limit front lock (through use of thick spacers) and grind down my front guards (above the wheel) and side pods (when on full lock) to fit the 255's. Now it's all settled, it's all good.
Happy with grip - just need to get them hot to get the best. I overheated the pilot sports on track after 5-6 laps.

Dom,
Are you talking road grip or track grip or both isn't as good?
F.C, can you elaborate please?in what circumstances did this happen?
Thanks
the grip on road and track almost the same.. kumo had slight edge, but i prefered teh toyo and the loss of traction was progressive rather than....st its gone. Are you talking road grip or track grip or both isn't as good?
