ive got my gearbox out and noticed the two output shafts flanges that bolt to the drive shafts have a bit of in out play and very slight angled play. the centre bolt is tight ive checked.
can anyone just confirm thats ok?

If I read your post correctly then in out ok, angle not.

A photo of exact piece would be helpful.

Hi Dom
The drive shafts should to a degree 'float' horizontally. Is the angle with the car jacked up or with the wheels on the floor. In theory with the wheels on the floor the shafts should be horizontal as possible although a slight angle is ok. The more angle you have will cause the cv joints to wear prematurely.

The gearbox is out of the car.
the drive shafts are not attached

there are round flanges on each side on the box that the drive shafts bolt too.

these flanges have movement in and out about 2 mm but i can also very slight rock on a vertical axis (top pul out bottom push in)
no oil leaks

Entirely relavant topic to me. I too have the engine and and also noted some end play on my shaft, at least one of them:

One does not move in and out at all, the other move about 1.5mm. I thought, when the drive shaft was connected, that there was a slight amount of angle play but now the box is out I can't feel any, so I suspect it might have been my imagination...

I am hoping this is reasonably normal.... Is yours like this Dom?

Hi, My G50/52 is out of my GTR and exhibits about 1 mm of axial play on one side and about 1.5mm of axial play on the other. I have no detectable off axis motion.
I would think that any off axis play would be bad but I am not a transmission specialist. You may want to search for a cross section illustration of the box to see what joints/bearings might be loose. I believe the output hubs slide into position on a splined shaft....

Best, Chris
