Hi everyone,
My name is Geoffrey, I live in Belgium and I am currently building an Ultima Evolution Coupé :

I'll receive the engine from American Speed on thursday (LS7 700hp) and would like to pair it with a AIM MXG Datalogger.
I have a question for Utlima Owners/Builders, is it possible to get the Can+ and Can- data directly from the ECU ? American Speed told me it was possible but without any clue on where I have to seek.
Has anyone have done this before ? Can someone help me ?

I am doing something similar but with a RaceTech Dash 2. Speak to the dash manufacturer as they should be able to supply a CAN interface that allows you to connect your AIM dash directly to the ECU.

Looking at the Aim Datalogger and it's angle on the dash (could be optical illusion though), I would be afraid of possible problems with sunlight and glare when reading the screen.
I have been thinking about that problem, as the windshield is just over ... It can be a problem, I will get rid of it by screwing it differently. I hope so ...

is that the 5" or 7" unit?I'll post pictures of it when it'll be ON, it is a 7". You were right for the size deadscoob but the 5" won't be clear enough to read behind the wheel when you have the remote buttons option on the steering wheel.
Welcome to the Ultima community. I to looked at the AIM dash for another project besides my Ultima. In short the AIM costs X, but by the time you acquire all the bits and pieces to get it to work with a OEM ECU you add some serious money to the pot. In short I speced a MOTEC ECU, dash, switch panel and power management system. Yes the cost up front is expensive but the system woks on a digital Canbus system and everything works together. Plus the capabilities of the Motec new 100 series ECUs is over the top. Again welcome and good luck with your project. Lee

Thanks Lee !I will have an answer from AIM soon, they told me that it won't be a problem to get the data from the ecu but they had to have more infos about it first.
I emailed Gail at AS and hope he'll answer too ...

I know a guy from West Flanders that I've met on track often who has an original car and a GTR and Derdaele Racing used to race a real nice GTR. A few months ago there was another guy at Zolder with a red SBC GTR. So far as I know 4/5 cars but probably more...You should be able to wire the CAN Hi and CAN Lo into the respective wires on the OBD port, and load a config onto the dash which should effectively be plug and play - not done this on a GM loom but have done it successfully on a couple of other cars and it proved very straightforward

Got The engine yesterday and noticed that there was an OBD port ... I tought there wasn't one so I asked the question.Problem solved !
