Hi,

I've been searching for a suitable oil grade for the LS3 and I struggling to find a recommendation for Mobil 1. It's for an AS 550 odd bhp engine ...

And recommendations from those that use it.

Thanks.

I use Mobil1 esp 5w30 usually on offer at either Opie or Halfords then buy enough for two years servicing.

How's the build coming along?

Graham.

I use Mobil1 in all my engines with never a problem at all. I don't have an engine for the Ultima but certainly I'll be using Mobil1 when it's installed. My C43 with it's V8 has used Mobil1 since leaving the factory. It is now knocking on the door of 300'000km and still purrs like a big cat. Even after 17 years the engine just burns 1lt of oil for every 5'000km, so that certainly is proof of an excellent oil IMO. When racing Porsches I used Castrol RS with also excellent results.

Thanks. I shall take a wander tomorrow.

Build wise, all major parts in or around the car, meaning engine in and most remaining major components will be fitted in the next few months. There are lots of fiddly bits, but I am hoping iva mid summer. Fingers crossed.

In a newly built engine??

In a new build I'd consider running in with a mineral oil first to allow the rings etc. to bed in.
Using synthetic in a new build can stop this happening properly.

Don't use a mineral oil as yours is a new American Speed LS3 Ultima Engine Package which means it is already 100% bedded in correctly on the dyno (something that is very difficult to do correctly on the public road environment), as well as being thoroughly power tested, mapped for the Ultima and emission tested on the dyno prior to despatch.
Mobil One 5W30 ESP Formula Fully Synthetic is the recommended oil.

Regards to all,
Thank you. Much appreciated.

Regards to all,
Ahh. When you said your builder insisted on using M1 I assumed it was a rebuilt engine.

so recommended route as above!
