I am sure this is all basics for some of you, but it is advanced for me so bear with me...

My water temperature gauge has stopped working. It is a standard dial and was working fine, then I noticed the needle had just dropped back to zero and now doesn't move. It is an LS2 engine.

Is there anything I should poke or prod or wiggle, and if so, what and where is it? Or anything more technical I should worry about?

I have tried tapping the front of the gauge to see if that helped because sometimes when I am flying a plane and the instruments go wonky it can sort things out, but no such luck in this case smile

I (sometimes) hate cars!!!

The gauge reads an electrical resistance in the temperature sender. Depending on the gauge design the resistance could be going either up or down with increase of temperature. For most if you disconnect the sender and short the wire to earth the gauge should go to full hot. If it does not move then the gauge is either dead or has become disconnected either from the sender or has lost its power supply.

Many thanks Steve and also to Mark, who I bought the car from almost 1 months ago and still emails help to answer my numptie questions. smile

Problem solved. Something had indeed become disconnected and needed reconnecting.

I (sometimes) love cars again biggrin
