Hi all, my Evo kit (well half of it) is on it's way to Fremantle Western Australia but I am having trouble with the Customs requirements. I have tried 3 Freight Forwarders who are all saying that I need 'clearance' from Canberra to confirm it should not be classed as a complete vehicle! I have stated it is basically a chassis, bodywork and a few other pieces but does not have an engine, gearbox, suspension, wheels, etc. Can anyone from here help?

There is a similar question which has been posted on the FB Ultima Owners page with some indications on the way to go about it.

Normally, you have to import the vehicule once if you want to register it for the road. The most important part is the chassis with the chassis number. If the tax is based on the value, it is then better to do it on just some parts with the chassis.

This is a general statement, I don't know the rules in Australia.

Not late at all. I've done everything 'by the book' but some people are just so 'Jobsworthy'

My car came in two containers so there was never a "full" car there, as even if it's in parts, it's considered a complete vehicle. This way, it was just classified as parts on import. I did not have a problem and it appears you've done the same splitting the containers. I did not have to deal with DOTARS at all.

Contact my freight forwarder, http://www.spcustoms.net.au/, ask for Steve (or his wife Jodi, but you really need to speak to Steve). Mention you are a friend of Alex from Clear Bridge Group, and that they did the import of my car (in parts) back in 2011/12.

I have a really good relationship with my FF as I put all my containers through them, so you should be able to look after you.

Don't use FEDEX in Australia for this sort of thing at the moment. They are being asses with it all. They made me do a vehicle import approval on a ebike that came in parts. Damn idiots. Couple of guys in there at the moment are on a power trip.
