now Clarkson etc have left i wonder if there is any reason TG cant have the car on the show.
Interesting road test last night of the light weight cars but now they are running out of ideas how cool would it be to have an Ultima.
Be great for the car getting official recognician for the laps and the factory.

I always thought it was the premise of having a relatively cheap car upstaging the million-pound hypercars that stopped the car being on the show rather than anything to do with Clarkson, Hammond and May?

Really?
If he really said that then he is more of a moron than I originally gave him credit for.

Can you explain. Why would he want to do that?

I'm not sure, maybe true. Just what I'd heard was that Lambo, Ferrari et al weren't going to lend their cars which cost X times as much as the Ultima to see their lap times get spanked

Its the wanting to wreck it that needs to be explained. Makes no sense.

Probably been asked before but what is the factory position on this - do they even need to go on tg given the current waiting list ?

The makers of 'How it is Made - Supercars' have filmed a show at the Factory which will air soon on Sky (Not sure which channel - probably Discovery, Discovery Science or National Geographic).
This will no doubt raise the profile of Ultima.

Personally I would rather see a film on Top Gear showing excerpts from a home build (possibly by one of the team or a known 'Face') and then a piece on the same car followed by a Stig lap.
Ironically, James May would probably have been ideal for the build!!!!

The Factory would need to check the car over after the build and before the lap and it needs to be a Factory Standard car.

This approach would be more in keeping with the 'hobby' element of the car and probably appease the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, etc. I could see it working with the build shown in more detail on the web, which you watch first then the program on the box.

The issue with major programs like Top Gear is the cost to the manufacturer of letting them rag a car with very little mechanical sympathy. My idea is probably more cost effective and interesting.

NB. Factory - if you use my idea I will expect royalties smile

I know from other kit car manufacturers that all journalist, and particularly Top Gear, are only interested in ragging the car beyond its limits. Evidence of this has been seen on Top Gear where they have destroyed various cars - e.g. Hawk Stratos.

The trouble is, TV makers are interested in making TV, not giving an honest and fair appraisal of the cars they are talking about.

Tiff Needell drove a GTR (many) years back - to give you an idea it was the factory demo which was a T reg!

Top Gear (and I expect The Grand Tour) are more interested in drifting cars for the braying masses than fairly appraising them.

Now, the exception is Chris Harris. I'd love to see him review a GTR or Can-Am as he can actually drive!

Totally agree, would love to know what he thinks. Although I think hes probably a fan of more 'refined' machinery than a group c race car for the road.... ?

Agree.... Monkey Harris and then a Stig lap in a factory std car is needed. Since the Evo broke cover, there hasn't been a single piece of video on the car with a GPS timer attached. It's time that we saw the car generate the numbers written and had a Stig lap video to watch!

I was pleased that Clarkson didn't get his hands on a car as he'd have just wanted to flog it to breaking point for the sake of TV.... Harris isn't like this and would drive it properly, delivering an honest driver's opinion. Come on factory, let's do this!

sorry been away
yes wreck as in thrash the nuts off it... wheel spin kill the tyres then like hawk moan its a kitcar/
if i was the factory i wouldnt either but now Chris Harris i feel we would get an honest opinion
i know the factory dont really need more sales due to the waiting list being extreme however it would help the secondhand prices and market and thus drive the manufacturer forward
