Consider me another positive vote for Dave Smith. I went to see him when I was up in Boston this past April, thinking it would be just a quick hello. We hit it off immediately and he spent over two hours showing me around and talking cars and automotive history. Get him talking about Carroll Shelby and just stand back! LOL

I'm not big on the GTM, myself, but my buddy fell for it and picked up a third-hand kit for a fair price, so I'm helping him put it together. Personally, I'm giving serious thought to building a FFR Coupe, but we'll see what happens if/when my GTR sells.

Do you have your GTR listed anywhere? How much are you asking for it and where are you located? Did you finish your build?

Hi Will,

I've listed it on the Ultima group's Facebook page, but haven't been pushing hard for the sale yet. I'm located in central Florida (near Orlando). My listing on PH for the car was deleted, so I don't want to quote numbers here; please feel free to contact me directly at: ken at ultima-builders dot com

The build is finished and the car is spectacular.

Curious as to why you are selling Ken,

Part of the fun with an Ultima is the smile it puts on other peoples face. Theatre on the road.
Is the build what interests you?

Hi Paul,

I completely agree with you on enjoying others' reactions to the car. One of the things I loved about my RV-8 was that people not only wanted photos of the plane, but photos of themselves with the plane. In aviation, that typically only happens with warbirds. Must've been the paint job... cool The Ultima receives exactly the same reaction. It's cool at shows, but has already gotten a little old on the road. Having already terrible drivers divebombing across multiple lanes for a better look at the car is uncomfortable and occasionally unsafe.

Part of the reason for selling is that I do enjoy the building process (thinking about a possible Daytona Coupe project next), but it's also my wife. We enjoy going on drives together and she'd be much more comfortable in something fun, but substantially less raw. The current thinking is moving between an F430 or a 911. If I can hold out until next summer, I could also see myself picking up a Cayman GT4 RS.

Anyway, that's been my thought process lately. Lots of moving parts! laugh

Best,
Ken

Ken, shot you an email for more details, hope it went to the right place. I can appreciate the need for something a little calmer, I've done hardcore race cars for the last 10 years and the Ultima was a nice step back believe it or not.

I met with Bob the other week on his way southbound with the Ultima. All I can say is wow! I can't say how awesome it was of him to stop on his trip and even take the car out of the trailer for me. Even got a ride and laid a little rubber in the parking lot. i was amazed at the attention it drew. We met in the parking lot of a restaurant and i'm pretty sure most of the staff was out there taking photos. It was very informative to finally see one in person, and they truly live up to their reputation.

I do have one question with regards to the extended pedal option. I'm exactly 6' tall and the car felt very small to me. I know his pedals were adjusted forward and could go further back, but i read that they offer an option where they're slightly extended for taller drivers. Are other guys in the 6' range going with the standard setup or extended?

Glad you got to see and ride in one, as well as experiencing a taste of the attention they draw everywhere. The constant parade of looky-loos (some far more intrusive than others) can get crazy...

I'm 6' tall with a 34" inseam and the standard pedal arrangement works just fine. It's perhaps a bit tighter than I'd prefer, but I think the extended option would've been overkill. I'm more annoyed at how close the pedals are to each other laterally. With my big feet, I have to position my left foot all the way outboard (LHD car, of course) in order to have enough room for my right foot to depress the brake without hitting the throttle.

Ken,
As far as the pedal placement, I welded new screw sleeves to the left of both clutch and brake pedal to move them over about a 1/2 inch each.
I agree the pedals are tight together but this seems to help a little.

Brandon, It was a pleasure meeting ans speaking with you. After you left restaurant lost power, still cooler inside then outside.
Had a great time in Florida with the visit to my family, no issues towing there or back to NY.

Sounds like a good solution. The first time I drove the car, I thought I'd need to wear my racing shoes in the Ultima going forward. I've since figured out how to position my feet so that my sneakers (trainers for my UK friends) fit acceptably on the pedals.
