gUYS I am about to install my fourth A.C. compressor in 30k miles. I am totally convinced that any issues regarding belt alignment, tension or pulley ratios are not the issue. Stock pullets and tensioner belt alignment is spot on, the drive belt looks brand new. This engine is a pro built LS with all the goodies in it and it revs instantly, with a redline of 7200 RPM. I will now be installing a relay to shut the compressor off at 3500 RPM controlled by the Motec ECU. My fear is that its the rate of change not excessive RPMs that are causing one compressors and two A.C. clutches to fail. Any thoughts? Lee
P.S. remember I live in So Cal and the A.C. is on 85% of the time the car is running

I have a "built" LSX and have had to replace one compressor, (clutch problem, not sure of compressor age as it is an LS transplant) I am no expert however it is my feeling that the "charge" was too high (causing big loading) I believe 800 grams was the original charge, I had read that overcharging can cause catastrophic failures, I think the factory used to recommend 500 grams but I think I read on here somewhere they had upped this amount.
Suffice to say I run 650 grams now and all appears fine.
I use the air con a lot regardless of whether I'm ragging it or not, so far so good.
