Dear all

What is the current thinking about putting engine and box in whilst still on build dolly? I have a well constructed dolly but just wanted to confirm if best installed on or off? (I do like the idea of additional access of it being on)

its not hard to get engine and box in when the car is off the gound..
if you fitted and engine and box on the dolly. how would you get it off?
will castors take all that weight?

personally i wouldnt but never built one from scratch

Did mine on the dolly and have one in the workshop at present.
Provided you have an even floor surface and decent castors you should be OK
It is also unlikely you are moving it about much.

Using the dolly has its advantages, like having as you mention, clear access under the chassis. As Steve mentioned a smooth floor is a good idea if you need to move the dolly around, if needed. The only drawback is how to get the Ultima off the dolly and onto the ground safely without using a crane of some sort. When I moved my rolling chassis from Locarno to Sion (South to North over the Alps), it was on the build dolly and I needed a lorry with an articulated crane to pick up and lower to the ground. Easy on a Can-Am as the roll bar is practical and comes in handy. The GTR may be a bit more difficult to do...

Built most of mine on the dolly, but I have a telescopic forklift to lift it off.
