Stripped a thread in LS7 block changing exhaust manifold as it had a leak. The last one too! - all others done up to 15ft lbs.

I've re-threaded it but its still not quite good enough to get 15 ft lbs. Got it to about 12 then it starts spinning again.

Is a thread insert my best option?

I'm not the specialist, but I imagine you need to get some helicoil in there...

Mark,

Are using the full depth of the threaded hole in the cylinder head? Could you use a longer bolt to pick up a good part of thread deeper down or potentially make a stud that screws into the head fully then use a nut? Is all the thread stripped?

Might be worth trying this otherwise a M8 helicoil would be the solution,.

Or you could try a thread locked stud and nut? Loctite have an excellent tech support team and could advise on the appropriate product.
