which grade oil for track-day?
Discussion
nobody here runs on track with gtr????
My American friend said to run them with 10/30 (LS series).
I thought that the / 30 did not resist very high temperature in summer.
obviously I'm wrong, i think.
and many thanks at Jonny MacG for precious advice

@deadscoob: many advice for modifies in use my gtr in track-day
Jonny in race use 10/30.
my friend's usa idem.
but they replace it every 10/15 hours........
@GTR-P and JOULES: thanks but I think 15/50 fits only supercharged.
I believe that for my LS aspirated is too dense: for example with my 10/60 I had many "long tongues of fire" from the exhaust (no kat) releasing the acceleraore because maybe the exhaust valves do not close completely, and above all I believe that does not properly lubricate the many type bushings
boh!

I think that its best to review the manufacturers engineering specification sheet for the oil viscosity that you want to use. (They are available from the manufactures web sites)
The sheet will inform you of the recommended temperature ranges of that specific oil. For example, Mobile 1 5W30 seems to be a better choice than 10W30 at higher oil temperatures. Their 0W40 oil also seems well suited (North America specification). For max power, generally use the lowest viscosity that is safe for the maximum engine oil temperatures and application.

I think you have other valve train problems not just oil viscosity if this is the case. Are you hitting a rev limiter? Someone took photos of my car at then end of a long straight on the local track, I hit the rev limiter by 3/4 the way down the straight and as soon as I get back on the gas there are 4 foot flames from the exhaust. In my case it's just a function of the rev limiter cutting spark and not fuel, so it loads up until it gets ignited.I believe that for my LS aspirated is too dense: for example with my 10/60 I had many "long tongues of fire" from the exhaust (no kat) releasing the acceleraore because maybe the exhaust valves do not close completely, and above all I believe that does not properly lubricate the many type bushings

DEADSCOOB: wich grade oil do you use in your gtr?
does not do it to redline, but beyond 5000rpm on the release only when engine oil + over 100 ° C: I think it's Autoignition at high temp , that unburned gasoline.
I have also tried to enter the cut-off, but little change the result.
But do you think the 10/60 affords better best protection at high temperature and at high rpm (6900 rpm my) or to 5/30?
Perhaps the problem is that I have the cam retarded 2 °.?
I have also tried to anticipate / retard injection phase, to "get fat / lean" gasoline, but the result changes little.
in any case ,it does so only when engine oil is very hot.
nobody here has had these problems???
thanks

Just watched this recently which has a good run down of oil types and good info about viscosity.

I ran a 2001 C5 Corvette Z06 for a couple seasons and we ran Mobile 1 10w40 synthetic, then switched to Royal Purple 10w40 synthetic. Really it boils down to the base weight recommended by the engine manufacturer, and usually for track use you step up a weight, so from w30 to w40. It's mentioned in the video but the first number applies to the coldest temp the motor and oil will see. Personally, I'd start with a 10w40 and monitor your oil pressure after a hard run or a track session. Only on the hottest of days (115F/46C) did I want for a heavier oil, and thankfully those days are rare.
