Does anyone have a list of 'items to check' before each drive? Once a month? Once a year? It would be a great document for all owners!

That is what I'd be worried about as I am really useless. Might have to look into who in my vicinity could help assuming I ever buy one .
You could not possibly be more useless than me. I think if you buy well, have the number of someone with a bit of experience of the car to advise on the silly niggly things and have a trusted garage as back up for doing anything proper then you should be fine.

Being honest, I think the key is to buy a reliable one in the 1st place and go from there but that relies on having someone to look at potential purchases with you with a critical eye.

The owners group here and on Facebook have probably seen every type of niggle under the sun and there really is a wealth of knowledge available for folk like "us" and obviously the factory are always in the background as well so I doubt you could ever be stuck
