I think it's year dependent. Didn't it change for cars registered after (a particular month in) 2005?

As from April 1st the road tax on 'new' cars changes based on emissions and can go up dramatically for the first year. It will also be taxed £340/year more for the first 5 years if it costs more than £40,000 when new. There is a table on the government web site. I was told by someone that because a lot of the newer cars are producing less revenue because of lower emissions the government is losing out on income and this is their way of recovering it.

Ultima as a kit car didn't change. Still should be £235 regardless of age.

Shocking?
Mate try to explain how much cost own a sport car in Italy.

Cost is based on engine HP, a 500HP car cost:
Road tax if is Euro 0: 1406 GBP
Road tax if is Euro 6: 1213 GBP

On cars with more than 250HP you have to apply lux cars tax:
If she's new: 3120 GBP
This cost decrease every year to 467 GBP when she's 20 years old.

The problem is the management of money collected!
and... the many rookie political administrators who prefer to squeeze the few car enthusiasts rather to promote a rich and active market.

Deadscoob :
tax evasion (large or small) exists throughout the world, especially among the really rich.
no country is excluded. wink

a very big problem in italy is unfortunately very badly managed and the governors much more rob ,than people.mad
In fact, as you see, we pay amounts of stratospheric taxes for our lovely cars.
we "normal" iperfans (not rich man) make huge efforts to be able to buy, use and maintain a supercar weeping

being in europe for us, it made things worse in italy.
imho, you have been right to leave the euro with brexit.
