Sounds like an excellent opportunity to test your gear mechanism/ clutch, gear ratio actual top speed, and perfecting aero balance. I hope you got some good data out of the experience, (please share your thoughts) and did not trash your front end body work too much if not protected. I looked into going there once, but was encouraged to join some elitist car club with a posh website. So joined PetrolHead Nirvana and thrashed it round Wales (EVO triangle ) and Europe instead with real car enthusiasts . That proved a good testing ground that showed up a few weaknesses ( in my Ultima GTR at least) in the bendy stuff, on the autobahn, at altitude and in an European heat wave. The car and myself are better for the experience.
Tweaks to the gear linkage have already been made and it's much better now.
I found the car to be much more stable than I expected. Which i have no doubt is due to the recent geomerty set up done by Charles Dunn. I only did 3 runs one of which I had to abort so only reached a top speed of 161mph. I ran with a rear wing and front splitter. I had the dampers on a soft road setting of five clicks only. The SBC's rev limiter was set to 7,000 rpm and I planned to harden the dampers as I did more runs to see the affect this would have.
As mentioned I was pleased how well the car behaved on the road at speed. Although I had a problem with the linkage the new G50.50 box performed well. (My G50.01 is available for anyone that needs a fantastic box for acceleration and track use) and I left feeling not to disheartened as on the whole the car performed very well and that by ensuring I get a better start (not so much wheel spin) and by utilising the whole of the available rev range the car has a lot more to give with a top speed of over 180mph feeling very obtainable.
As for stone chips Bruntingthorpe sweep the runway before the event and the cars run wide apart and in pairs only, so a pebble dashed bonnet is unlikely and it's the low flying birds you have to watch out for!

When I went a number of years ago, the factory recommended just to remove the smaller of the two wings. Stability over 160 was virtually perfect, you could take your hands of the wheel and the car did not move at all, first run was amusing as my door started to open at about 150. Eventually we hit 199 on the car speedo, but couldn't crack 200 due to driver skill and running a rather tall 5th gear from CMS which gave too big a gap from 4th, but given another mile or two probably could have got well past that, although the fuel would probably have run out first.

199mph that's a good effort. Which engine, Bhp and gearbox were you running?
It's a friends std 997 turbo engine but has hybrid turbos, uprated intercooler and race cats etc. 9excellence tuned it, I think it was about 20k worth of mods Inc suspension. Standard 4wd etc. It went 202mph last year with a tailwind there. 650bhp or soIn the early days of vmax I did approx. 30 runs in the Ultima. SBC at 6400 rpm limit and standard G50 it would hit the rev limit just below 170mph 1/3 down the runway. Changed the gearbox and got over 180mph. Never did bruntingthorpe with the LS7 which should easily get the 200mph. Front splitter, rear wing and adjusted brakes make for stunning braking!
