Maybe your rev counter works off noise, so when the canopy is open it thinks 'LOUD' therefore shows a high reading! When you close the canopy it thinks 'quiet' and shows a lower reading?

I'm only trying to help

Now you mention it, after passing by a local school the other day, I do recall hearing some muffled cries and a slurping sound from the 'charger?

That was probably a small child. They're a bit more obvious when you open the engine cover, as the legs tend to stick out of the air intake.

Yep, I've had this happen to me, I put it down to the engine ingesting hot air and exhaust fumes( not to mention pistons) with the rear cover up. Doesn't do it with the cover off!

Tried again without the filter on.

Same thing!

I think mine suffers more than normal as the carb inlet is much nearer the canopy.

We discussed this before but perhaps a stub stack would help. I know Gail thought that these may not help but he runs his engines under dyno conditions so I bought one anyway. It takes seconds to fit so next time you are over try mine, you have nothing to loose.

Are you sure that all those return springs are not expanding and ???

Can you drill a few more holes in the canopy... mesh grille them to match the others?

i was looking at something that might help, might not though. www.ramairbox.com. would be a way to duct some tubing to a lower spot to get your air from.

Or you could just have a cannister of liquid oxygen, and give it a bit of a squirt into the air inlet whenever you want to pick the RPM up a bit

Thanks for suggestions guys. As I said before, there's almost no room between the canopy and the carb inlet, so ramair scoops/stub stacks etc. aren't an option.

I've only got about a 10mm gap - even a stub stack is about 30mm high!

The stub stack is very small and would fit witin a 2 inch air filter. Now if 2 inches is too much for you!!

i like what domster said about nicely cutting more holes, it would make your ultima stand out a bit from the rest and might help the problem. maybe you could come up with a STIG logo and get that cut out right above the filter and then screen it. or tell the company you want a special canopy to better acomodate your needs and then get it made out of carbon fiber.

another option that wouldn't be cheap, sell that supercharger for a more efficient ATI supercharger. this is the only way to get a carburated supercharger to fit underneath a can am canopy, which would defineately give you some room under your canopy. just not a very economical fix to a small problem. might gain some power though. another bad thing is that you said you were the only one to try the supercharged engine so no one has had the same problem before. wish i could help further.

EH? The K&N site reckons that it raises the filter height by about an inch? Are you saying that it sits within the filter itself???
