Well careful, but forgetful owner. I forgot to engage the rear catches on my GTR and the canopy opened when I hit the throttle at the national speed limit.

Cosmetic damage to the back will require filling + spraying. Mounting points will need some re-enforcing with some new glass fibre lay-up. Could be OK as a gash rear end for use on track, or to experiment with canopy mods to fit that monster supercharger you've been dreaming about.

I have stripped all the lights/grills etc for my new canopy.

If anyone wants it, or wants pictures to laugh at my misfortune, then drop me a line. I'll accept any reasonable offer / beer. Buyer collects (Wiltshire)

If I haven't shifted it in a week or so, I will be attacking it with a jigsaw and placing it in the bin.

Paul:
Sorry for your accident. I was in the same situation when the first run of my GTR, but, fortunately I had installed a pair of steel strings together with the canopy struts and at last only was a scare.

I don´t think nobody is going to "smile" with your problem because he can be the "next"

Good luck,
Javier

And I bet you scared the sh1t out of the car following behind

Come to think of it... couldn't that just be an 'air brake' that you've invented. Could help at the end of the Mulsanne straight

It happened last year so I have got over it now. Just that I only just got round to replacing it.

Just back from my first blast in it. I forgot what the smell of burning rubber was like on the motorway slip road.

People are telling me I should fit a tell-tale microswitch to the catch, but I don't think I'll let it happen again.

The bang was impressive, at first I thought something had let go in the engine, a quick check in the mirror revealed a wall of black behind me. As the canopy rotated over the vertical with the drag, it felt like the back wheels went light. Stopping was rather squirmy.

Left a trail of yellow gelcoat on the asphalt which took two months to wash away. It annoyed me every time I left our village.

Good news is that with the new canopy, I have vastly improved my sikaflex skills, so this one is a much neater job. Made all the easier by going out and buying a 15 quid air caulking gun.

My uncle had a sport in the GT Privalige races 3 years or so ago (Reg Hopkins) at Castle c. His canopy came open as well. Slight problem was he (or at least his son the driver) was doing around 150mph at the time. Car took flight and is no more! A thought is to fit a pip pin at the front of the canopy as well which I have done on my spyder. (bit ugly but works.)

Wouldn't have minded it if someone camcorded these things....stomping on the gas just to see the rear fly off....pretty amazing sight.
