I know this subject has been done to death but I would appreciate a little help in finding out what kind of gearbox I have, I know its a G50 long box, but cant make any sense of the part numbers, it has two lots of numbers on it the first is 950.3301.302 (3R), The first nine may be a "G". The second number is 964.301.301.0R.

Does this make any sense?

The two numbers you list are the Porsche part numbers for the gearbox case castings. What you need to identify is the serial number. On my box this is stamped on the middle casting (all orientation in Ultimaspeak not Porsche) on the top at the join between the front and middle castings. My serial number is of the form G5003 1 Oxxxxx where xxxxx is the actual serial number. The G5003 indicates that it is a G50/03 the 1 indicates that it doesn't have an LSD (I checked by opening the inspection panel - just an open diff for me - I guess I'll need a Quaife) and the O (which is the letter not zero) indicates the year (93 in this case).

I found the guide on Mark Fish's webpage www.adequatespeed.freeserve.co.uk/ invaluable in identifying the box. You might have to extrapolate the lettering for the year a bit - I knew mine was a 93 box but it was good to find that it tallied.

Cheers Dave

This is just getting more confusing, I have now found the place where it states the model, Mine reads what looks like G5004 1 The 4 is very unclear and I could be mis-reading it.
Two questions
1: I havent heard of a G50/04, is their such a box?
2: Should their not be a serial number straight after these digits?

Cheers

John

I haven't seen much on the G50/04 on my travels but I'm sure I have seen it mentioned somewhere...

You are looking for 12 digits including the first G. On my box it was spaced out a bit round the knobbly centreline part of the casting with one half on one side and the rest of the number on the otherside. It took me quite a bit of digging with whitespirit to get the funny emulsified yukk to come off and show me the whole number.

Have you tried sticking a screwdriver in the shifter and found all of the gears yet (reverse is a pig to find this way ). Maybe it's a 6 speed???
