On Saturday I took delivery of my GTR. I have to say that I am not disappointed and to me it is everything I had hoped for - as the handling/performance is simply awesome. And yet, it remains comparatively "easy" to drive - with a lovely engine that just burbles away and is as happy to coast along at 1000rpm (without aircon) as it is at 6000rpm. At last, a real, attached, drivers car that you feel part of.

Three points have so far summed the car up:

1) I went to Goodwood yesterday to do a sound test. It passed (!), albeit I told them it only revved to 4000 and the test at 3000 confirmed 101db and 98db - passing their highest limit 105db! However, whilst there (at a Ferrari and Porche owners day, these cool doods strolled over and said "wow, what is it etc., (what you would expect and I used Paul's trick of saying that it written down the side) but then they proceeded to ask "how much did it cost, was it under £300k? (no kidding). Ofcourse, I did not bow to their desires and this just reaffirms my correct decision not to "join" this merry band of so called "car enthusiasts" (yeh, right!).

2) I wonder if others have come across the same problem. Well, my indicators stopped working for a time yesterday and I thought "well, it is expected". So, I thought I'd call the factory, to be told "you have knocked the hazard switch into the middle" and sure enough they were right! I guess I thought "who needs a direct modem dial up to McLaren for £600k when a short call does the trick - and this help and support has thus far summed up the service provided by the factory!

3) On route from the factory I was overtaken by a biker. Instead of the usual "*anker" hand signal given to some Italian and German car manufacturers, I was given the "OK" sign (I think!#). This was one reason why I opted for the Ult.

So, yes, it is a factory car (almost) and yes I have obviously paid a premium for this. But it is nice to know that the Ultima can be sold to a broad customer base - those who love to build (and drive) and those who can't/won't build but just want to drive.

Hey, I also callected my eldest son from school. Suddenly dad has become very "cool"! Funny that! I am however awaiting the effect of the *anny magnet!!! Laugh, laugh (Paul??)

For me, it is the end of speculation. At last it is a reality and I can now understand why the owners (at least) on this site remain loyal to the brand.

My thanks go to the factory and the general Ultima ambassadors, for the help and advice thus far!

Well done mate! All it needs now is to be taken by the scruff of the neck and frog marched down the road and shown the Basingstoke to Newbury road ...... Oh, and let loose.
I still remember the little yelp of joy from a 'passenger' I took along that road once, we had just taken a lovely flat bend at about 125mph IIRC?

Best of luck ........ Tell the family to stick the birthday and head south with us next week.

Paul - yeh mate, it is real addictive. I would love the Lemans trip but, having taken ownership, you will appreciate that I am in no position to bargin with the Chief Fun Inhibitor (CFI). So, I will have to make up for it when you show we the way on the A32! See ya soon!

Picture is in the "Insurance" thread.
