Hi all
All the Coxon Cars got home OK. Glyns GTR never missed a beat.The land Rover Driven by Roy plodded along AHEAD of glyn.
And my Canam (john) made it home in one piece, the repairs to the gearbox may now become a permanant edition (collapsed Clutch fork bearing replaced by 13mm socket). And we finally found the cause of the rattle on the engine........... the Crank! The Crank decided to completely give up the ghost just after we had exited Rouen slowing us down to 50 mph all the way to preston, AAARRRRGGGHH.
But on the bright side we still beat D Mac home!!!
Anyone remember the story of the tortoise and the hair!!!
What an excellent weekend away, loved every minute.
And thanks to you all who helped with the gearbox removal and refit last night.

How does a crank completely give up the ghost and you can still drive at 50mph, or am I missing something?
I am always very paranoid about new rattles in my GTR. On returning from my recent trip the car developed a nasty rattle at 3200rpm. I thought that one of the silencer baffles had gone south. I discovered what it was, the fan on the alternator was spinning independantly of the shaft. The AS alternator does not have a key to hold the pulley and fan in place and relies on friction generated by the torque of the securing nut

Thanks for a good laugh over the weekend and the strong sense of comraderie.
Shame about Nick's going south on the way down (especially gutted when we finally got it going to find he had no oil pressure!).

What happened to David? Got conflicting reports from alternator belt to holed piston? We saw him but didn't realise he was in trouble? Apologies for not stopping, but it was pretty tricky on that stretch of road and Hels thought it was someone else??
Anyway, we got back fine if a little hot under the collar with no aircon. Sods law, I accidently put the fan on as I parked up in the workshop and the bloody heater motor was working again!!!! Still, it wasn't worth losing the fan override for and the helicopter vents worked well enough.
Some tinkering to be done now that I know what needs attention, but now it's run in, I can confirm that it's one bloody fast car!

Davids car sounded very ill but not surprising considering the speeds. Also stopped near Calais to help a sport driver without a alt/water pump belt. Just missed the ferry by 5 mins but got back without a problem. All in 2.5lt of oil and a slight adjustment of the carb was all that was needed for 900 cool miles of driving
Well done guys. Sounds like the trip to Le Mans and back was just as much a challenge as competing in the race, with the various mechanical ailments to overcome, heat exhaustion due to no aircon etc etc. Plus you got to drink beer. I'll need to give it a go next year.

The nice boys at Dover P&O actually stopped me as I was getting off the ferry and raised the height of the ramp so I didn't ground out!!

Well done chaps. Great fun, sorry to see the trouble on a few cars. Great demo of top end excelleration Stig on the motorway, I thought someone had switched off my engine. Did GT make the ferry he was last seen heading across the port at supersonic speeds.The Le Mans crew may change a gear box in a few minutes, but I bet they have never tried it in the middle of a campsite, very impressive!!!
Yup, fantastic fun and many thanks to Guy for being the pilot. I did volunteer but he muttered something about 'le badgers'.
Great to meet everyone, and defo something to do again. Maybe in 2018 when my gtr is finally screwed together

Le Mans proves to be the highlight again this year (so far!) Shame the Ultima was at home sick, but still had a great time.
Shame about the problems some of the guys had. Most impressed with the Cox's. Brave enough to remove the 'box at that time of night! Top marks for nursing it home too. That mechanic mate of yours deserves plenty of ale!

Best part of Le Mans - watching a Zonda coming flying past, latch on to his tail, hear him do two down-changes at about 110 and then watch him try to drop us, and fails!!!! Shame for Nick, but if you're going to go bang, that's the best way to do it, chasing Paganis!
Oh and flying down Mulsanne, the roundabout after where the Gendarmerie are stopping everyone, with Dave R in close pursuit up to about 1##.
Oh, and of course the beer, the Coxons and especially Dominique's daughters!

Sickly Sports on the way back was me. Many thanks for stopping (and sorry for making you miss the ferry). Also thanks to David and the support crew for being prepared to come and find me with a replacement belt. As it turned out the French motorway rescue bloke was excellent and towed me to a garage outside Le Toucqet where new belt was put on and I made it safely home to Berkshire with no further trouble.

Mike/David, l have some photos taken from very close behind you of you and David chasing the Pagani. Unfortunately there was an Ultima in front that wouldn't pull over....
When l find how to launch them l will do so or perhaps CJ will do the honours again.

Shame our engines weren't run in (That’s my little Brother's J-K, and myself - Glyn) as it would have been nice to have had a bit more of a play. My engine is now ready for a bit of action so if anybody is planning any track days or other events then let us know as we may be interested. J-K's engine is being rebuilt as I write this and should be back in action tomorrow (and probably run in by Sunday if I know him).
Just a quick word of warning though: - there may be 3 Coxon's next year as we have another brother who I’m taking down to the factory next week, with his deposit in hand for a test drive (At least I hope it's his deposit but you cant be too sure as the test drive does tend to get you excited). I just need to educate him before J-K gets to him that a yellow GTR is THE car to have.
