Hi Guys,

Thought I would come to the horses mouth so to speak as I'm sure this is something you come up against.

I run a SBC Cobra with 'rather open' pipes and want to organise something for myself and some mates in Tivs but I'm struggling to find somewhere that is tollerant.

I'm based in Reading with the rest generally in the South East/London area.

Is any one aware of a track/aerodrome etc that would be close enough and not have a problem with noise???

Nice forum, keep up the good work Guys as you must be aware many non Ultima owners read it to appreciate 'real' cars and engines!

Regards
(skid) Mark

Skid - nice to hear from a local

There's a bloke in my village with a nice looking Cobra, viper blue with the good old Shelby stripe. Keep meaning to say hello and have a peek under the bonnet.

Haven't got an answer regarding the track day though as everywhere seems to be more intollerant these days. Llandow in Wales is the only one that springs to mind but it's short, crap and too far away

I think there's plenty of us who'd be up for some sort of collarobative track day.

Llandow technically has a limit of 105dB, but the only noise meter I've ever seen there was my own (it's my local circuit, been there quite a few times).

I'd suggest it's not really ideally suited to big power cars - the circuit's quite tight and well under a mile.

Donington sometimes have unrestricted days - I know Bookatrack have one in the Autumn, and RMA have done them (they did the one where Brundle drove the Schumacher 2000 Ferrari F1 car). ISTR Oulton isn't too bad, the figure of 106dB springs to mind - Easytrack do quite a few there. Rockingham is another one with less stringent limits cos of their location and the walls/banking etc.

HTH,

Bob

You might want to think about Croix - it's only an hour or so from Calais, which for most of us makes it closer than Llandow.

They run a general test session on the first Sunday of every month for 100 euros - given that a day or weekend return ferry crossing can be picked up for the same price as a packet of smarties at the moment it make a fair bit of sense. No need to book, just turn up.

Best bit is no noise limits - some massively loud vehicles are usually in attendance.

Recently I was at Brands - there was absolutely no noise testing whatsoever. Not sure if this is a common occurrance, however.

Brands has a limited allowance of 'noisy' days - the GP track is very close to lots of houses - so the louder days tend to be on the Indy circuit.

Why people buy houses right by racing circuits and then complain about the noise is completely beyond me!!!!

Thanks for your help Guys.

A jolly into France sounds interesting!

If I can plan something I will let you all know so that any one who wants to tag along is more than welcome..... even if you are going to p**s all over my car! ;o)

Stig, - Hello chap. Been an avid reader of your website and enjoyed following your build. Wouldn't mind catching up sometime. Will keep my eyes posted for a thread about any local ultima meets.

Cheers all.

Sorry Stig have family commitments plus weather on Sunday would make me a U Boat commander as no real weather gear to speak of!

Was seriously considering it but didn't realise until about a week ago that no 'run what you brung' which sort of took the shine off it for me. Will support events in future whenever I can.

Cheers

It was the new GP circuit, actually. But some houses did seem quite close!
