My engine builder is not sure what will give the clearance. Does anyone have a part number or descrption for a sump pan required for the Canam?

I seem to have had more grief than most here on my GTR. Started out with a 7.5" deep Canton road race pan, but found it a bit too tight, although factory reckoned it should just fit if spacers placed under engine mounts. Changed to a 7" deep Canton road race which has comfortable clearance over the lower chassis rail. p/n is #15-240 for the pre-80 block. You also need the 20mm plug #22-405 and a suitable oil pump pick up. See cantonracingproducts.com.
Not sure what sump the American Steel engines use.

I have a middle of the road American Speed 383. I think that it has the 7.5" canton winged sump (I measured 7.5" from the bottom of the block to the bottom of the sump). The clearance with my gearbox (G50/03) fitted between the sump and the bottom bar of the chassis is...erm...interesting at about 5-6mm. Given the stiffness and small ammount of rubber in the engine and gearbox mounts I doubt that this will give me any problems though. I'm running the Lakewood Muscle Motor Mounts supplied by AS with no spacers.

I can see that having the 7" sump would make things a bit more comfortable.

As an aside. I was pleasantly surprised when I had to remove the oil filter the other week to reorient the sandwich plate. I had read various scare stories about having to jack up the engine to get the filter out past the bottom bar of the chassis. There would appear to be no such problems with the current Ultima chassis. It's hard to see how to remove it without spilling oil but other than that it was dead easy.

My solution is a good old plastic bag over the filter just as its about to come off. Works for me ever time, no spills, I thought everyone did it!

Thanks for the advice re oil pan, will look at that part.

Thanks for the tip!

The other cars I use are so boring I just leave it to the dealers to get their hands dirty...
