My GTR was corner weighted at 1020kgs with full tanks of fuel.
By the way, The Can Am model I think is certainly lighter at 960kgs (vs 990kgs for the more masculine GTR), which suprises me as it clearly has more cubby hole & storage space for the curlers/hair dryers etc. biglaugh

Are GTR owners unsure of their sexuality or something... only asking as the amount of ste they talk about in relation to Can-am owners is quite disturbing!

^ I think that by and large GTR owners seem to be bigger piss takers and ste talkers than CanAm owners and I must say that I for one am surprised at the amount of stick you half car owners tolerate, so fair play to yer! yesthumbup

Yes - I'm aware of the concept of banter, but every fking Thread where the words Can-Am or Spyder appears??? Oh sorry, I forgot - it's hilarious, original and completely spontaneous!

Personally, I couldn't care less - just gets a bit wearing where you end up with serious threads getting spammed with pointless age-old predictable ste!

I'm sure the factory are delighted with it too. Potential male Can-Am owners being put-off by the insinuation (from Ultima owners themselves eek) that the car is akin to an MX5!

Hi sobisch ,my Can-am weighed in at 870kg with driver and 2 full tanks of fuel !! very light !!
performance wise they are pretty equal the GTR is supposed to have a bit better aero due to the closed cabin While a Can-am tends to have a bit less underster .
To be honest don,t think there would be much in it but i,m sure the GTR boys would tell you differentwink;). simon
amazing as with full tanks mine weighed 1010kgs on corner weight scales and I added 30kgs when I added the AP's and Ultima 18in wheels.... how did you weigh yours?

Holy Crap been away for 2 days nand look what happens !!!

Clive , can only tell you thats the weight that it went through SVA at if that is wrong then take it up with the nottingham SVA center !!!!

although the new owner confirmed it was one of the quickest cars he went in ,including a supercharged GTR !!! and the performance figues confirm the weight advantsge over a GTR ,pete's 1/4 mile time was virtually identical to mine yet i run about a 100bhp less !!!

As regard to the p1ss taking ,i always assumed it was ment as playful banter and took it in good spirits if it was not ment in that way then i,m dissapointed in those involved !!!

I think its been shown that SVA centres weights are very very inacurate, although cars will vary in weight it wont be by more than 50kgs or so.

The GTR's I know being weighed on corner weights are not much heavier than the same spec canams, maybe 20kgs max... all the weight saving is in the roll cage and rear diagonal.... but the canams roll hoop is heavier.

As for performance, in my experience thats more effected by the engine caracteristics and gearbox choice than the weight.... get the engine and box matched and your car will be faster than more powerful cars which are not matched.

Its not a simple case of adding more power or less weight.

does seem to be going a bit far on the hairdresser bit... but I have always taken it in good heart.

Thats my point Lucky and the real reason why I'm a little irked by all the (alleged) 'banter'. I've seen plenty of technical threads on here get disappointing response levels whilst the same old topics get spammed with 'humorous' crap. It would seem that the only issues worth posting about concern the merits of the colour black, the price of an LS7 install, and the femininity levels of Can-Am / Spyder owners!?

From my own point of view (and I offer this purely by way of example), I was looking to buy a steering wheel some time ago and asked what other forum members thought was the optimum size for the Ultima cockpit / rack. Now I'm guessing that every car out there on the roads has a wheel - hence my disappointment when I got precisely NO REPLIES to a fairly straightforward question for the first three days! It did however get one response eventually telling me that the factory sell a 320mm smile

I appreciate that a forum does not solely exist to answer all my queries - but come on, there's a lot of 'know-how' out there that's not being shared (assuming most forum users did indeed build their own cars!).

Maybe I've just been spoiled coming from the Caterham scene where folk are literally falling over themselves to share their knowledge / opinions! (And yes, I know there are more Caterhams out there, hence greater thread subscription).
