I would like to get some feedback from you guys that have gone down the ceramic coating route. I would like to ask a set of questions to each of you, for which you can edit this topic to add your response and we can maintain a 'database' for future reference.

1) Did you have the whole system coated or just the headers
2) What coating/finish did you op for
3) How well has it lasted (years/miles)
4) Who did you use
5) Approximate cost
6) Was it worthwhile (in terms of cost/heat reduction/looks etc)
7) Would you go for a different finish or not bother if you had a 'next time'

Hey Paul,

I had Jet Hot put the black ceramic coating on my entire exhaust system prior to running the car. I've done this on all of my cars. It is as advertised, great at keeping heat out of the engine bay and durable. I'm about to finish my new exhaust with a single SpinTech muffler and will do the same with it.

Phil, my findings

1) Did you have the whole system coated or just the headers
Just the headers, but will get the mufflers done when they have been cut for repacking.
2) What coating/finish did you op for
The chrome shiney one.
3) How well has it lasted (years/miles)
Been a year now (1500 miles)no chipping/flaking but needs regular polishing to stop it dulling.
4) Who did you use
Camcoat Performance Coatings, very good service.
5) Approximate cost
I think it was around the £250 mark.
6) Was it worthwhile (in terms of cost/heat reduction/looks etc)
Deffo, I can touch the headers after approx 20mins, the untreated mufflers after about an hour!I would like the shine to stay for a bit longer though. wink
7) Would you go for a different finish or not bother if you had a 'next time'
I would do the same again. . . .maybe a black satin finish next time but yet to see one.

1) Did you have the whole system coated or just the headers
Whole system. The headers were also done black on the inside
2) What coating/finish did you op for
chrome (Cermachrome) outside, black inside.
3) How well has it lasted (years/miles)
Almost five years now (14000 miles). Stays much better looking than bare pipe. Mine has started to flake just in one spot each side where road spray gets past the edge of the inner wing. This jet of cold water probably cools the coating causing it to flake.
4) Who did you use
Camcoat Performance Coatings.
5) Approximate cost
Can't remember but 5 years ago so not valid for comparison.
6) Was it worthwhile (in terms of cost/heat reduction/looks etc)
For appearance alone it is worth it and the engine bay could do with as much heat reduction as possible.
7) Would you go for a different finish or not bother if you had a 'next time'
Same again.

1) Did you have the whole system coated or just the headers
everything but the muffler
2) What coating/finish did you op for
JET-HOT 2000 coating black
3) How well has it lasted (years/miles)
4 year, 6K miles
4) Who did you use
http://www.jet-hot.com/
5) Approximate cost
442.35 for the coating + 100 to shipping back and forth
6) Was it worthwhile (in terms of cost/heat reduction/looks etc)
Yes the coating looks great and it reduced under hood temps a lot. Uncoated you didn't want to get anywhere near the engine bay when you first opened it. With the coating I have accidentally touched the pipes forgetting they where hot.
7) Would you go for a different finish or not bother if you had a 'next time'
would use jet hot again

1) Did you have the whole system coated or just the headers
All pipework inc. headers.
2) What coating/finish did you op for
Plasma ceramic coating from Zircotec in metallic grey
3) How well has it lasted (years/miles)
Fine but only 1800 miles
4) Who did you use
Zircotec
5) Approximate cost
£850
6) Was it worthwhile (in terms of cost/heat reduction/looks etc)
Never tried it without but the exhaust cools very quickly when the engine is switched off.
7) Would you go for a different finish or not bother if you had a 'next time'
I would use it again.
