Current plan is silver, but as I am in touch with my feminine side that could change at any time
Please let your feminine side out. Silver really kills the beauty of the Ultima. IMHOCurrent plan is silver, but as I am in touch with my feminine side that could change at any time
I follow your rebuild and I'm really impressed over the effort you go thru rebuilding it. Just out of curiosity, did you never think of selling it and building a new one instead? (I have asked Jon Olsson the same thing around 20 times
The cost would be even greater to start from new. The original owners would have taken the finiancial hit when selling. Im guessing Paul got it as a bit of a bargain from Robyn, then with his time and ability will probably make a beast of a build for a fraction of what it would have cost him from new. The Silver does look good, but google the Silver Lexus one, for the perfect silver, i believe it was Jon Olsons before the developments. ill try adding a pic.

That car "grew up" together with my car in the same garage. (and yes it's the one Jon now owns) It's a Lamborghini color. Yes it's a very nice silver but it still looks very tame beside the red Ultima as an example. But this is all about personal taste so there is no right or wrong After a number of discussions with Kyle he ended up talking me into spending more of my money but not so much of it with him!!!
My desire for more power and the fact my car will be used quite a bit on track brought me to the conclusion that I needed to go the dry sump route. The cost of upgrading the LS2 to dry sump and 500+hp looked like being considerable. The dry sump LS3 was an option but the upgrade cost put us in the LS7 price range.
Hence the nice shiny LS7 in the above photo. Kyle will dyno test and swap/fit the bits we need.
The LS2 will be up for sale soon.
The chassis is now powder coated and the underside has been coated with stone chip and Hammerite. More panels to fit at the weekend.
Kyle will now call me a traitor - over to you Kyle!

look at that beautiful LS2!! a sweet little 6.0 swopped for a big clumbsy LS7.
Can i have first refusal on it please Paul? 2 careful owners my arse.
Good luck with the build Paul, i think you are doing a great job and with the intended track useage the dry sump was the only way forward.
Its going to be fun trying to get the 7 under 100db

Kyle I'm confused
You said this to me:
"If it was me and i wanted to do trackdays in an Ultima i would spend money on big brakes, nice trannie (custom ratios) some SS suspension mods and run a stock dry sumped LS3. 490 bhp and 480 ftlbs is possible from the DS 3"
From what Paul mentions, there's not a huge difference in price between a dry sumped LS3 as above and an LS7?
I will give you a call at some point for a chat, difficult at the mo as I work on a restricted site and am out 6 days a week until mid June.

DS
There was about £1K difference between an LS3 and LS7 as soon as you wanted to get to about 550hp with 7K rpm.
The other smaller issue is the fact that crate LS7's are available in the UK for immediate collection but DS LS3's are only available in the States (wet sump crate available in UK).
My situation is also different as my business buys the vehicle/parts which makes quite a difference.
The 7 will be standard with potential for more power if I want it but should be nice and reliable.

Now into the refit stage.
It is a long-winded process as most things need at least cleaning, possibly painting or buffing. New bolts and nuts where required too.
Ordered a cable operated brake bias remote adjuster this evening to avoid groveling under the dash. Currently thinking of putting an access panel above that area in the body.
With the rather pleasant weather we are having it is a great pleasure to have the workshop doors open. The insulation on the inside of the roof is helping keep the temperature acceptable in there but I have a pheasant who keeps creeping in and crapping on the floor. His days may be numbered if he continues to do so!!!
I hope to get quite a bit done over the extended bank holiday. Guess where I will be next Friday!!!
