you gone for two tone or full dukes of hazard Dixie?
Two tone ones. For now...

I nearly bought some Dixie horns for my E32 back home, but SWMBO vetoed them (for fear I'd be using them all the time wink )

I never know why people buy off the peg when you can get shirts made to fit for the same/less.

Paying full price for Lewins? They are a 'got pissed on Thursday night, woke up at some slapper's place in Essex and need something for my 10am with Sales' type shirt.
Convenience, plain and simple.

There are some things I'm prepared to invest some time and effort in - buying shirts for work isn't one of them. And yes, I'm sure you'll tell me it's no great problem to go to the tailor, get measured and for him to rustle up 10 shirts for 50p and a conker, but my 'can't be arsed' gene is strong wink
Lewins shirts in the London sales are overpriced, to pay full whack plus in Asia is mentalist behaviour smile

However we have something in Singapore called VPost run by the singapore post office.

It basically provides you with a virtual address in USA, UK, and Australia that you can use for fleabay, amazon etc, they then consignment freight forward to Singapore and on to your address.
We still have our UK house, so get stuff sent there and then either pick it up when in the UK, get folks to bring it out when they visit or post it to us.

I wouldn't trust the Malayia POS (and I'm convinced that doesn't stand for Post Office Service...) to run and operate anything such as VPost wink

to the OP, just went back through Asia archives here and found some threads (some for Singa, some malaysia) that may give you some good pointers / advice on the right sort of questions that SWMBO should be asking etc.

Hence why I don't.

And CBA to enter into brand-snobbery discussions.

Yeh back to topic, I've reread the original post and see the wife has been offered ajob in sales, my advice do not go near it, I have never (in 15 years) meet a European who has meet his sales target in KL, ( I use his here on purpose cause I do know one she who has done it and done it well) place is full of expat selling financial products to other expats 9or trying to) but selling to locals in near impossible.

If Craig want a job in motor engineering, then options are,
Proton/Lotus-they have their own people and I think Lotuis will be sold sone,
Peradua- they are tied up to Diatsu,
Naza- Kia and VW tie up and based up North in Gurun (great place 40 miles to Thailand I lived there for two years I loved it, but the wife would divorce you in a week)
Hicom-they just bought out Proton and are tied up with VW.

Race teams, I know a few expats working for race teams, but money is not good and there are alot of people looking at the moment as the story is that petronas are pulling their funding from their formula BMW team leaving people looking for work.

Set up on your own, not easy as the most you can charge is 10 pound an hour, so you need aload of guys on 3 pound an hout to give amargine, not an option as a one man garage.

Thanks. I did have a scan of them before, but I will have a proper look over them. It seems her job is more retail operations (whatever that means) so maybe not so sales biased.

Bad news about the Petronas funding. I had expected my first applications to be aimed Proton /Lotus, hadn't thought of Perodua, and I haven't heard of Naza of Hicom.

Hi again,

I have a bit more info on SWMBO's job offer...

she has been offered 7000 ringgets/month salary with a further 4000 to cover accommodation, a quick google has told me it's about 2300GBP which we could live off over here. My question is this, is this amount enough to live to a reasonable standard? I will try and get a job also, so is it enough to support 2 grown ups - I'm worried about starving!

Honestly, that is not a very good package at all.

Sorry, should be more constructive, you will be able to rent an older condo so although low, the housing is bearable.

The monthly though, you will have to pay taxes out of that I assume, if you need a car for commuting to work etc (may not be able to get accommodation close to work due to allowance) having a few nights out a month etc and you will have very little left for "stuff", holidays and savings. Plus, do they give you flights back to UK? That will be around a months wage for the 2 of you!

I would say that you would not get much of the enjoyment of the posting on that.

But I am coming more from a Singapore cost of living standpoint so might be wrong.

4000 would get you an OK condo, and leave around 500 for the extras, Tv, electric, I own my condo, but I would not pay more than 4000 a month on principle, having said that I know people who pay 15, but these are the people who can not get cash back if they do not spend their allowance.
7000 K a month is a awfull salary, its what they would pay a local, the minimum salary you want as an expat is 30,000 net of tax, which would be 36,000 gross, that's what your peers will be getting, and many will be on 7000 a day.
On that sort of salary you will find yourself severly restricted.
But at the end of the day it depends why you are coming, the main reason peole go overseas are, experience, to save, better life style etc, you will not be able to save and you will not get abetter life style.

didn't want to put a monetary value on what people would be earning in KL, but Berw's figures do sound about right from what i have seen.

Asia is not cheap, or at least living and working in big cities in Asia is not cheap, backpacking off the beaten path is, often people mix up how cheap their holiday was with the reality of living in a big asian City and doing a 9 - 5

Thanks guys, I appreciate the honesty.

She would get one flight home a year, and that's just her - I would have to sort myself out!

The move would be just for the work experience for the OH, it could be a great stepping stone for her.

Ok only you know your circumstances and what is right for you, but try to get some sort of settlement allowance, you will need 3 month for the deposit on the flat in cash, assume no kids so no school deposits, and cars here cost a fortune, istoo can tell you about the sort of money you need to get settled in.

Go down market on the condo and get everything in the rent, so you max out the 4K, you can get somewhere Ok in the center mutiara villa http://mutiaravilla.com.my/ is in the center, and is OK pool etc, I live in the area, you can walk anywhere and a one bedroom is from only 1500rm an month so you could add the extras in and still maybe do a cash back with the owner.

Don't worry about airfares home, I've never bothered pain to get them to get the dtes you want, try to get hers into the salary, or an allowance if you can get one full fare economy you will be able to get two excurion economies.

haha, much the same, anticipation, opnn every level doesnt exist here. I can compare it pretty accurately with Spain, same Manyana attitude. Work is hard going as you will be likely ahead in ability but epected to work for your expereince, part the trade off. However when you want to relax, day off work (today for me) then its really easy to unwind. It is chaotic but with almost no agression.

Berw has been an utter gent and helped me and my family out no end. Also a proper petrolhead, has been her for as long as i have been in trousers. So knows the place and the system well. But KL is tranforming itself from a sleepy Se asia city to a modern metrolopis, but the rate of expansion is so fast there are big gaps between new and old. Like Prague was in the early 90s.

But i echo Nicks comments, see you in a few hours for beer and food nick!
