A new section of the forum for me, so be gentle.

I'm arriving into Singapore tomorrow evening, my company has just bought a new build office there and I'm managing part of the fit out etc.

The office is in Raffles and I'm staying in somewhere called Wilkie Edge

It's a short trip, so I'm not planning on hiring a car.

Looking for some advice on the locations I'm in, what to see and do, where to go for a decent western meal (I don't eat Chinese, Thai etc)

Oh, and if anyone's around for a beer then that'd be good too!!

Hi, There are some pizza / italian places just up Prinsep street from you[opposite the Park mall shopping centre ] - about 2-3 minutes walk from wilkie edge.. on your way to The Cathay [good place for movies ]

Is your office in Raffles City [next to City Hall MRT] , or Raffles Hotel ?

I am in town this week [UK trip cancelled ] .... may be able to meet up for a quick beer / coffee.

You can also get decent beer and western style food at the pubs at boat quay : The Red dot pub along boat quay [not far from Raffles Place MRT ] does decent western pub food and own brewed beer , as does "dallas" next door. The food at Harrys is OK too.

The office is in Raffles Place, I think the MRT station is called Raffles Place also.

Thanks for the tip on the food, and definately could do a beer or two with someone who knows the lie of the land.

Hey there, missed this one yesterday, and I owe you a beer for digging that info out!

Easy few stops on the MRT to get to raffles place from there, and plenty of opportunities there for beers also!

No travel plans for me this week either so also good for a beer?

Never heard of the hotel you are staying in though, but from alfaman's descriptions, it is in Dhoby Ghaut, lots of food and booze in that area, also some good live music bars, also close to Orchard Road for a bit of Simgapore Culture (shopping)

Ok just looked on the map, edge of little India, shame you don't do Thai as right next to a mates restaurant too!

Lots of eating opportunities in Plaza Singapura, or in Raffles City Mall, Also lots of eateries in cjimes, just down the road, and in Raffles City Mall.

Food will not be a problem for you, it is everywhere here and it is from every part of the globe!!!

Top curry place in Little India is "Mustard" .. a stones throw from Little India MRT : on race course road - probably walkable from Wilkie Edge .. which is a bit closer to LI than DG.

..seem to recall stumbling back over Emily Park to my condo after a night out round there ....

edit : you may get propositioned around Cjimes / Raffles City area after a night out .. last time I was out for a beer round there .. got approached 5 times [!] at the pedestrian crossing near the Carlton hotel on my way home ... just FYI.

Apollo Banana Leaf on Racecourse Road is always my favorite for a ruby in Little India!

Clarke Quay not bad .. I prefer Boat Quay a few minutes walk along the bank back towards Raffles mrt [......towards marina bay and fullerton hotel ]

The red dot pub at boat quay does home brewed beer - and very good burgers too lick

Boat quay, Clarke quay, Robertson quay, you won't go wrong.

If you are on orchard, try KPO at the south end, or naturally Harris bar at orchard towers (and onward there after) at the north end....

KPO is close to where I live ...it must have some Friday night car club meetings - last time I went past there were about 3 lamborghinis, 2 Ferraris , several 997s , 2 Bentlys , a cayman and a boxter all valet parked out front (no other cars..) ,and all quite new- pity I didn't have my camera ...

No car club, it's just the current in place for all the rich kids to go. There is some sort of status value in your car being parked in front of KPO rather than taken off to the nearby underground carpark by the valet, hence always the seriously high end stuff out front!

Most of them don't have a clue about cars themselves, just the $$ value

I guess most of these rich kids fezzas and lambos are funded by daddy? Funding $1m of car in your twenties takes some doing .... I am sure they are not all heads of hedge funds...(?)

$17 for 500ml wink

boat quay is generally better value - more like $12 -13.

I went out drinking last night near tanjong pagar (next to CBD and Chinatown) - quite a few bars selling pints for $11 (net smile )

KTV bars looked "cheap".

Also worth trying Circular road behind boat quay - cheap beer and curry at the "Thai smile cafe " ..good place for Thai food and a pint or 3

Now you really know how broke the UK is..... Or how weak the GBP actually is!

Although tbh, $17 is a tad expensive, alfaman's ballpark prices ar about right in real world bars!

Some of it is 2nd / 3rd generation money, some of it is money laundering, and some of it is just raw wealth ....
