Now that's a bit more like it, Mike. Knock around fun for small money.

couple of guys down in Malaysia running similarly converted scroats, go like st off a greasy shovel !!

re the NSX as AJS says - they tend to be iffy in origin, build and maintainance - even down in Singapore it can be hard. for "affordable go fast" the GTR is the king in SE Asia, anything else is a fortune. Although the 350 / 370Z's arent too shabby for some potential.

TBH - get a big smelly pick up, a motorbike and if you like to get greasy some random project that will find its way onto your driveway in the following months!

There's a few original older cars like this running around in Chiang Mai for relatively small money too. Doesn't really matter if it's an old Escort or old Toyota or something.

These are often put together in parts by people who don't really know what they're doing, and quite often stolen in Japan or elsewhere.

My colleague and I have these conversations nearly daily and the best bang for your baht consistently seems to be the Nissan GTR, which you can now pick up for around 4 million.
The last thing i need is some knock off motor from a Thai / Japan triad gang hustling cut n' shuts. I would have hoped i learned from past mistakes including the 09 favela drug gang bicycle /AK47 incident.....

The GTRs for 4mil are R34s? I always hankered after a Jap boosted R33. They look cheap n cheesy in BKK. Just my style.

Count me in for any group jalopy track project. Im a grease monkey. Heard of any rallying or similar near by?

I think Alex is pertaining to the new GTR at 4 mil, although I thought they were nearer 9mil here?

If you want older ones here's a few here, but I would say though I imagine they are all somchai specials, as they're too cheap.

Minburi, 1500 for Sat/Sun - Sat practice, Sunday competition

Patumthani Speedway 500 for tent and 200 baht entry fee per class. (unsure how many runs you get)

I think it's the ~08-09 vintage that are in the 4 million range. I believe quite a lot were imported brand new by Eton, an established company who do a lot of high end cars.

Not my market though, so I could be wrong. Like John I'm more in the big ugly pick-up with "don't care" dents club!

Yup, first generation of the current GTR - as said, majority were properly imported, i think a lot came up 9 months old out of Singapore as well.

hehe - I find that traversing Bangkok is much easier when your car has an air of "fk you" about it!

Hmmm, Black Swan worked well for me - sensible priced Beer Lao?

I won't be giving my liver too much of a pounding. 10pm curfew.

i'll take the advice and stop obsessing about my BKK car and get a mad max thunderarse truck. im just sick of jalopy driving in Rio for 5 years for similar reasons but have to agree a DGaF truck stops the plebs playing silly buggers.

the AK47 / bike incident? Well, it happened with these characters, 5 mins before they got themselves involved in this ststorm
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-1104...

.. will fill in (exaggerate) over some beers or drams

DRAMS!

We ain't that posh like!

I have a feeling this is going to be a good story.

If you do look at pickups, there's a Ranger 3.2 available which would be a decent tow truck for a track car...

I was really keen on the Ranger but when I bought last year the waiting time was over 6 months. I bought a Hilux instead and got it about 2 weeks later. A shame as the Ranger is way better equipped and the Hilux is an old model now, but another 6 months of my shed would have been trying.

Plus it's a Ford. Everyone I know who has a Ford has had problems with it, and a brand new model rushed out to fill a backlog seemed like a bad idea. I guess the problems are mostly ironed out now?

The ranger is on my to do list too - wait for a 3.2 is now down to 3 months, can get any flavour of 2.2 in 1 week.

Can also pick a few up on Baht sold for a little below list.

Looking forward to the broad exagerations of that story!!!

quiet beers last night huh ..... dragged my sorry arse home at 3am .... again!!!!
