Ridiculous isn't it? But it's been around for a while this idea and for "Les presidentielles" Macron has generously decided to abolish the wealth tax if elected. It will be replaced by an annual tax when you finish paying your mortgage. Only in France!

That's it,don't try to improve employment or drivers for the economy, implement more taxes. What a good idea.

I could quite easily sell up and move somewhere else if selling up was easy.France gets right on my tits sometimes.

I really don't think they have thought it through as yet. It must be income and house value related, and the chance of Macron being elected are pretty slim. Le Pen is more popular, but I still think it will be Juppé now that Fillon has shot himself in the foot and retired hurt. Won't repay the €800,000 he has been paying his wife as an aide though! In brief, will probably never happen, but I've asked my bank manager for a €5,000 loan against the house if needs be. Then I'll never repay the mortgage in my lifetime;)

I thought you couldn't borrow against the house you live in or any other property for that matter. I Allways thought loans and mortgages were based on earnings or at least monies coming in.
In order to maintain re payments.

Some people in France (even on the left) are starting to see that you can not tax your way out of a terminally ill state of economic health created by a lumbering State and ever worsening public deficits.

What has been uncovered about Fillon is happening at every layer of society and with each of the several hundred thousand elected officials.
Taxes will go up , things will be slightly tweaked whoever gets in and the French will remain as a country of conformists and followers rather than decision makers and economic innovators.

The 5th republic is getting long in the tooth but at the moment there is unlikely to be a 6th one as no politician who has a chance of winning will be brave enough to change things.

rant finished...., (I love some French things btw)
