Fly out on Wednesday - can't wait!

A few more questions:

  • Is there any chance of seeing a sumo competition?
  • Do many people speek English? I'm hoping to at least try and pull!
  • Is there anywhere that we can see some crazy Japanese tuned cars? It would be nice to drop past one of the big tuning companies like Top Secret.

Take a look here: http://www.sumo.or.jp/eng/ticket/nittei_hyo/index.... to see if the dates fit.

Only in the expat bars/clubs. If a bird is looking for a gaijin, that is where she is going to be. Otherwise they are not interested in westerners. I also hope you are minted (or can act as though you are...) as things over here are far far more cynical and materialistic than they are in the West.

There is very little English spoken outside of Tokyo. This is a country where nearly a third of teachers that teach English in high school don't speak it! Lots of people can read and wright but very few have the confidence to speak it. If you are travelling in the countryside, forget it.

Hi guys, new to PH, but not new to Japan.
I've been here since '91, in and around Tokyo.
Since I got a family I thought it time to get a reasonable car,
a family car as it were, so my only and daily driver is an MG Midget.rolleyes
Life is good.
ears where abouts in Tokyo are you?
Stumbled and hit my toe on this old post...I'm in Hibarigaoka, 15 minutes west of Ikebukuro.
