Try the HK Classic car club, there are two TVR's that race in their car series at Sepang, both M cars with Ford V8's very very fast.

Toobin, what are you asking me? is it can you join the HK classic Car Club, without a classic car? I think the answer to that is yes, you just need to demonstrate an interest, I'm not sure beacuse my membership is included in, (and automatic) the first race fee I pay each year.

Hi Berw in short I'm a huge pistonhead who massively misses his car since moving to HK. I've been without four wheels for a year and a half and am desperate to get involved again. Can you tell me more about the club in HK?

sorry to dissapoint but the Hong Kong Classic is actually Run in Malaysia. It's Cheeper for the Honkies to keep their cars at Sepang and Fly in / Fly out for a weekend. (Plus they get a break from the missus hehe )

The HK club do a lot in HK, all sorts of charity, drive out etc, I race with the racing section who race at Sepang. You can race any road car that was capable of being built before 1986, so my mate runs a 1988 M3 for example. Races are run as part of the Malaysian Super Series, 6 times a year first race is mid May, two race weekend, 12 laps plus qualifying and practice.
Cheap by UK standars but of course if you are HK based you need to get and stay at Sepang for the weekend, the club has a deal witht he Pan Pacific at Sepang. They have a web site.
Only real restriction on cars are Proton, the Saga is eligable, there is a limit that one car tyoe can not be more than 15 % of the grid. Also this stops the race being all 911's. Fair mix, Two V8 TVRs, E type, Mustang, M3, E28, Mustang, 911, E28, Lotus Europe, MGB, 911s 260Z, RS2000, Minis, 7s, and a load of Jap stuff. Car cost depands what you drive, several people bring cars in for 6 months from the UK, and spend I don't know what, but several locals drive to track and race Jap cars.
I love it. There is a drivers briefing held in KL for the Malaysians, but if based in HK you need to get on The HK CLassic Car Club web site and contact the race committe. If that does't work PM me and I'll send you an email addesss but I dont want to put that on a public forum.

I sold my Chimaera he in HK 4 years ago but still have some contact with other TVR owners here. I can put you in touch with them if you're interested. We used to get together regularly if infrequently and I suspect the current owners still do.

I read that you cannot import TVR's into HK as law states that you need airbags?

Is this correct? I want to find out if I can import my car over there (Noble) when I move over.

The tax is a bit high though - basically I will have to pay half my cars worth in tax.

Anyone have ideas on shipping and insurance costs?

Thanks

spoke to some friends in HK the weekend, you can take a car without air bags if it was supplied new without them, and you can have a roll cage if fitted by the manufactuter, but it must not stop access so no side bars.

I'm in HK and have a Chimaera. I'd definitely be interested in meeting up with other TVR-heads here.

I live in the Clear Water Bay area and often see/hear convoys of Ferraris, Lambos and GT3s going past. I'm sure a small group of us TVR drivers can make more noise....

Chris - apologies, we exchanged emails a while ago but I've lost track of yours.

Hey Duncan, I'm currently a massive TVR fan but with no TVR at present (would like to change this). I've had a few though biggrin Tuscan, T350, Tamora & Sagaris. Happy to meet up and talk about popping exhausts and the trials and tribulations of ownership. I'm in central but have a toyota comfort back seat and will travel biggrin

a few years behind the threads ... having experienced (as a passenger) a drive in a 350i wedge in 1989, I promised myself a TVR for my 25th in 1995. Moved to Hong Kong in 1994, and it has taken another 20 years to get round to it (and approval from SWMBO). Just bought a 1996 Griffith 500 and, once it hits 20 years old, will arrive in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, that will not be until July 2016, but will be worth the wait. I am in the CWB area too Dunc, so you might hear it about in due course if you are still in HK.

Graff, are you in the HK classic car club? They are a helpful set, good contact if you need specialist services.
