Would love to browse ph on a 46 Sony LCD.

My laptop is a 3 year old vaio and doesn't appear to have an HDMI, which is annoying...

What are my other options? I want to try and play my music from my pc through my surround sound- is an optical cable toslink style going to work!?

Thanks for your help

Does you laptop have a video out port? TV a PC in? That's how I do it on on Laptop (another we use has HDMI out), using a wireless keyboard/mouse to operate laptop as it's hidden in the cabinet with all the other guff - works a treat. Pistonheads in 50" plasma biggrin
For sound, currently using a cable from the headphone out on the laptop to the surround sound, ok it's only stereo but sounds OK.

Your TV should have a VGA port at the back - most modern TV's have them, even though no-one uses VGA, but DVI connections now....

Sorry to hijack but when I connect my laptop to my TV via HDMI it doesn't fill the whole screen. Anyone know why?

Is the GPU in your laptop capable of showing HD resolutions? That may be the problem - not enough pixel power.
