As the title suggests really, I've just bought a new Samsung 46 Inch D5000 LED TV as it was on offer. I've heard the Samsung's Audio is not spectacular so i feel i need to get some extra sound going on.
Basically i'm after some more ooompffhhh. I don't want wires running anywhere, so i feel a soundbar under the TV with the wireless sub down the side of the sofa would suffice??.
Can anyone recommend a good sound bar etc, or maybe a home cinema system which meets me needs, i have a budget of say £400.

Cheers Guys n Girls

I've got a Sharp sound bar. All it does is give a thin-screen LED TV the same sound as a normal TV.

Anything better requires an AV receiver

I've got a Yamaha squatting under my Panasonic. Beats the holy heck out of the built in sound, and the £300 system in the other room, but I wouldnt make ambitious claims about it bettering a dedicated, separate speakered system.

..Sounds like a Sharp soundbar is a step in the wrong direction and that maybe Yamaha is a better option smile

As I just said in another post, I have a D8000, not sure how much difference there is in sound between that model and yours, but I think the Samsung sounds quite good for a very thin TV. I was pleasantly surprised when I got mine and even now I occasionally think I've left the amp and proper speakers running. Hold fire with it, you may be surprised...and if it sounds bit rubbish and lost in a big room, look at the Yamaha!

I was toying with getting the Yamaha something 400.

A lot of thumbs up but I then ended up wiring the Panny up to my old Nad amp (1985) which goes to my old AR18s (also 1985) which gives me the Oooomph I need for movies etc.

Boss was talking about a wireless system for his house in France as he didn't want cables running to the rear of the room so asked for a bit of advice.

When researching it seems most wireless speakers still need wires (power) or they run on batteries, but knowing him the minute the batteries die they will remain dormant as he'll never get round to change the batteries. Suggested the sound bar idea to him which he seemed ok with and with a bit more researching told him to go for the Yamaha YHT-S400 jobbie as it seemed to get all the best reviews for his budget.

Purchased from Richer Sounds as they were the cheapest and had in stock for asap collection. He said its absoluetly spot on and he was really really happy with it.

I have a panasonic one and the difference is very noticable. It has a wireless sub woofer. Apart from that both the sound bar and sub woofer need a power cable and the subwoofer has a HDMI cable coming in from the PS3 and then another one out to the TV.

All is hidden within the TV stand so you cant really see the cables (apart from the power ones)

It does make a huge difference. If you have an expensive TV then it really is worth spending the extra on a decent sound system.

Do a search on a few and see which has the highest reviews then check Amazon out for price.

I have the cheap Yamaha one that does "fake" surround. It's the YHT-S400 Sound bar with 3 speakers, and the sub is built in to the receiver.

Got it more for the HDMI switching, and to simplify the mess that was changing inputs on the telly, changing inputs on the amp, three remotes and all the other crap that confused the hell out of the OH.

Sound is fine, better than the TV's built in sound, bass is amazing to the point of being able to feel it through the sofa that's sitting on the concrete floor.

Most of the time we leave it on stereo, only putting the fake surround on for movies.

All in all I'm happy with it.

I see there's a better YHT-S401 out now with a better sound bar but the same amp.

Just to point out it isn't fake surround sound. I worked for the company as a lab tech that developed the technology in Cambridge. More info here if your interested...
