I'm in the Market for a new tv, and as usual start looking at what's the best on offer. This is the current crop of 3D televisions, with quality offerings from Samsung and Panasonic. Having spoken to a couple of people who have already gone down this route, they've both said that they've rarely watched in 3D and if they had the choice again, wouldn't have spent the extra money on a 3D model.

Now I'm not sure if this a typical view, or just an isolated opinion. Of those who've got 3D, would you make the same decision knowing what you know now?

Any opinions gratefully received, as I wouldnt want to spend money on technology that in would never use.

I've not seen one in the home but I think you need a 50 inch plus screen and need to be pretty close for it to be any good. I just don't think for your average UK living room it works very well....

I bought a Samsung UE40D6530 40" 3D TV a few weeks ago, and I'm very very impressed with it so far.

Standard def and HD picture is awesome, and the 3d works phenomally well too, Tron Legacy, Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides, Megamind all look brilliant in 3d.

What I also like is the in built function to add 3d to normal pictures via the 3d button. It's great to be able to watch Dr Who in 3d or for that matter anything else. Although it's not true 3d the function does work really well in my opinion.

The TV also has the Smart hub functionality which is pretty good, although i've not really tried it in anger, mainly because of our crappy broadband.

So in summary, i think 3d tv works pretty well, it's not for everyone but i like it.

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-46HX903 (46") And although im impressed with it for games such as Gran Turismo etc i do wonder at times what was the point as i hardly have time to play my ps3 and everything i ever seem to watch isn't available in 3d! But i do think the picture quality etc is phenomenal, no faults to report with the TV itself but 3d as a whole i think is over rated....just my thoughts! smile

I really like my 3D Panny, though I only use it for Xbox. For the (few) games I play, it works very well and definitely adds something.

I didn't buy it for the 3D, daft as it sounds I bought it because I was told the panel does black better than the non-3D one, and compared to my G20 Panny it definitely does.

I have this one i think. LED backlight? I find the picture is a bit fuzzy at times but this could be down to my HDMI cable. PS3 to TV is a monster1200 HDMI and the pic is mint. TV to virgin media box is what came with the Vbox and pic is a bit naff at times

If you buy a medium/top-end TV you will get 3D as part of the package, whether you want it or not.

The Panasonic VT30 range has the reputation of the best 3D and pseudo-3D processing. I've tried mine with pseudo-3D on Avatar and it was surprisingly good, much better than I was expecting, but I still prefer to watch in 2D without the glasses. I haven't seen any true 3D content yet.

As others have said, 3D "polarises" (groan) opinions on whether it adds or detracts from the experiences.

Just bought a Samsung PS50C680 50" 3D plasma and Apple TV.

Hope to get it by the weekend.

Got the tv used from an AVforums user - Seemed like bargain at £500, still in warranty.

got a Sammy 59"d6900 with sammybd5500 3d blu-ray player and megamind 3d blu-ray + 2x 3d glasses for £1350

its amazing, when i first set it up it seemed HUGE!! (made my old pio 43" seem like a 28"crt) but got used to it within a day, could have gone for the 64" now no probs! biggrin love the smart engine internet stuff, youtube is great, the 3d explore channel is really good (as long as you have a decent broadband connection) loads of free 3d stuff on there: grand canyon, tahiti wave, niagra falls and black eye peas concert etc etc
Avatar blows your socks off! Seems to be enough 3d material out there now, waiting for TT3D

My advice is go for the largest screen you can! dont bother with a 50 go 59 or more!

Panasonic TX-P50VT20 and a TX-P42GT20 in my house. Both excellent sets. Very good for 3D and the best picture of any TV on the market (except the latest VT30 range!)

Couldn't be happier with them. 3D is great on the PS3 for gaming, and I've bought a Panasonic BDP-310 3D blu-ray player with twin HDMI outputs, one for video to the TV, and the other for audio to my AV receiver which isn't 3D ready. Works really well with my system. I do find you have to have the room completely dark for the best effect though.

WOW.

I am just running SD from my SKY+ box into the new Samsung and the picture is immediately, noticeably better than the Philips SD plasma I had.

I expect with HD signals it will be awesome.

Can I stream 1080 via AppleTV?

I don't think it does.
