Demoed these yesterday. Sub wasn't the apex sub, but another monitor audio one...amps were 'out the box' and not set up which was disappointing, but it gave a good comparison still...

I'm not a reviewer, or really a hi-fi or AV nut, so sorry for the layman's 'language'

Denon went first and sounded very impressive. The shoot out in Heat was just so realistic! Had to crank the Denon quite a way up to get ANY sound, but when up it really punched...

Played some music in bypass stereo and again, is sounded very warm, full but crisp, very detailed and I could hear musical instruments moving around in front of me....just as it would have been when recorded...very impressive.

Then the onkyo...louder from the off, but lacked a bit of substance...sounded thinner or less full...unless it was turned up more...then it was a lot louder than the Denon...

Not sure if the two amps just have different volume algorithms, but the onkyo seemed more linier...quiet, ok, loud, very loud, 'blimey'...where the denon was: quiet, quiet, quiet...just hear it...louder...ok...loud, ooh, very loud...'neighbours will hate me now'...

Seems the features are pretty much photocopied from each other, but the onkyo is a BIG lump. The Denon smaller and prettier...

So, that's my numpties review of the two amps to go with the Apex I'm getting...I'm sold on the Denon...

Well gothe Monitor Audio Apex's up over Christmas and set up with the Denon 3312.

Fantastic! Not really had too much time to play with them as have some household DIY I MUST finish or I risk divorce so no centre channel in yet (10 month old likes eating stuff he can get his hands on) but for music (stereo direct and multi chanel stereo) it sounds great. Detailed, clear, rounded...

very happy bunny!
