new tv - plasma or lcd or led? 42" on a budget
Discussion
Need a new TV. Currently got a 32" LCd that is being replaced. I want to upsize to a 42", which will be wall mounted 10ft from the sofa.
Price is an issue - I dont have £1000 to spend - but I have no idea what to get. The likes of Argos / Currys etc have a huge choice, and i have no idea.
Ideally about £400 budge. any suggestions please

Seems it - I've got a 37" Panasonic Plasma TV and it's great.I would tend to LED or Plasma personally, I've yet to see an LCD that looks as good either.

Have a look here to see which of the size you are after is in your price range?

I've just bought a 43" for my cellar conversion. I'll be using it for pretty much everything. Sources include HD Virgin box, Playstation, Blu-ray and it will also be my PC monitor.
I've been digging around for a couple of months and couldn't and was settled on an LG LCD then, I saw this and when compared, it was a few levels above the LG and £30 less. I couldn't find anything to beat it on spec or price.

John Lewis do the same set at the same price with a 5 year warranty, too.

This seems like a good place to start:

Listed all 40-42 inch TV's sorted by popularity.
I would stay away from Currys because their customer service is just shocking should you have any problems!

Bought this in the end -

from Comet as I didn't like the bloke in Currys which was next door. Got it home, fitted on the wall and it shut down and wouldnt power up. Took it back and was swapped straight over. Now working great. COD MW3 on the Xbox 360 looks great, and Sky will be fitting the HD on Friday.

Great thread this.
I can't believe how much the prices of LED/plasma tvs' have come down! Think I'll replace the crappy TOSHiba 32" humming LCD set I have at the mo. I'm getting hammered on MW3 because the clarity is so poor.
The trouble is there is soooo much choice. 100Hz LED, 600Hz plasma, Smart tv.... I'm a fan of all.
I just want the clearest/hi def picture I can get that handles motion very well.
The LED sets do have the edge for me, as they are lighter and slimmer. But picture quality comes first.
