TV stands - what to look for?

Buying a new tv stand this xmas - any advice as to what to look for and what to avoid?

I recently needed a TV stand as well and ended up thinking a little outside the box.....

I got one of these,



And took the legs off. It looks fantastic and is great quality/solid. The doors are copper and the design matches up from door to door. Cable, PS3 and Wii are all in the cabinet and controlled by a logitech 900 remote so nothing on show. The only down side is that we now don't have a visible clock. The original price for the unit is $1400 but I picked it up at $140.
