Wanted to watch Sherlock on the iPlayer last night so went to access it on my Panny G30 via the Viera Connect/Cast but all I got was all the app squares greyed out.

Must of spent an hour checking connections, the router, the broadband etc and tried asking the question on the net. Nothing on the Panasonic site but eventually stumbled across a thread on AV Forums where loads of people were complaining that they had lost all the network services on their Pannys for the last 5 or 6 days.

So if you have had the same problem, apparently it is intermittent, there you go, but a big black mark to Panasonic for not posting a bulletin and wasting an hour of my life.

I have a G20 and just checked Viera Cast and Viera Link and it was all working. Noticed that I had a software update missing, so ran that and now Viera Cast has nothing to view. Viera Link still works though.

Slightly OT but can anyone explain to me how I exit Viera Link? If I select Viera Link it switches to my Sony Blu_Ray and allows me to control all aspects of it, including all it's internet services and even my Denon AV Amp via the Panny remote through the TV. Excellent!

But there appears to be no way of exiting out and back to non-Viera Link (SKY for example) without switching the TV off and changing the AV amp inputs. Seems utterly daft to me. Back/Return, Exit etc on the remote do nothing. If I just press Viera Link button again, it justs gives me the standard option (Link, Cast, Photo, Music, Video, Record, Server).

Can anyone advise?

Sorry can't advise about Viera Link but the Connect has been up and down for the past week. According to posters on the AV Forum it would appear that it goes down mainly during our peak time ie 1730 until 2330.

Shame as I only used it for the first time to watch the first Sherlock on iPlayer and I was amazed how good it looked especially as our broadband is only about 5.5 mbs.

How are you accessing i-player - via Freesat?

No it's through the Viera Connect page which is apparently Cloud based. TV says that the network connection is fine and everything else in the house that uses the internet is working.

Is that exclusive to the G30? I have Viera Connect but no option to i-player. I can access it via Freesat but I have SKY now and BBC won't let them carry i-player (no great surprise), so I got a Sony BR and use it's internet media for i-player etc. Just wondering if it's something that I can configure through Viera Connect. Seems daft that one TV as more options than another, when they are both accessing internet content.

For the record, Viera Connect is working fine for me now (although obviously no i-player on my G20, so not sure how helpful that is to you and your G30).

Maybe it is exclusive to the G30. Do you not have an app market place where you should be able to download iPlayer.

BTW the G30 only has a Freeview tuner not a FreeSat one so maybe it's something to do with that.

Yeah, I've got an App market place via Connect but can't see anything for i-player. The G20 has HD Freeview AND Freesat, so maybe the thinking is that I don't need i-player via Connect as I already have access via Freesat (although I no longer have Freesat as I'm running SKY....)

Seems odd though that they would have seperate internet features for different models, when surely they software and access is all the same. I guess they want me to upgrade to a newer telly now that mine is 18months old hehe

I find with all these Viera features/media access that they seem like a good idea but are either badly configured or in reality, of little interest or use. I do have my PC connected directly to my TV/AV Amp, so I guess that I'm not really relying on them or taking full advantage either. It just seems that everything could be done so much better but I suppose they need better products to "sell" before it will be worth them investing much time of effort into it.

A little bit of research confirms that 2010 models aren't going to be updated with access to i-player via Connect as they already have access to it via Freesat.......providing that you have a satellite dish connected and aren't using it for SKY or similar......utter nonsense from Panasonic.

That is pretty crap but as in all things tech it seems to be the way. I tried to use this Macbook, about 7 or more years old, to make a photo album using iPhoto but when I had spent ages putting it together and then hit send, it informed me that I needed to upgrade to the latest software for £50.

Same with the new iPhone, I can only use all it's features if I do 2 upgrades of the OS at around £50.

As said though, it's a bit stty of Panasonic not to provide support for a just 2 year old telly.

Have you got a recent Panny Blu-Ray player as they have Viera Connect too.

I bought a Sony S570 when I got SKY as it had better reviews than the Pannys and was a fair bit cheaper. It also had i-player from the get go. And I can access via Viera Link - so I'm really just arguing the toss hehe

I'm still annoyed by the principle by Panansonic though.

Still can't find a way to exit out of Viera Link when I am using it to control the BR, other than turning the TV off. Therefore it's pretty pointless functionality.

I suspect that the issue is that only my BR player is Viera Link compatible, therefore when selecting Link, I only have that as an option. Pressing Link again gives me no other option and there is no way of just exiting to the previous input. Not very elegant as it requires turning the TV off or using another remote control to switch back to TV.
