I've got the Oppo bdp-95 and it's superb.

Slightly outside of the £300 budget though, but if you can find a 93 for somewhere close to your budget, just get it. Great machines.

Maybe, but the Oppo's do seem to hold their value rather well. Which was an annoyance when I looked for one. I ended up just buying a new one as the difference in price just wasn't that great .

The 103 and 105 sound very interesting with a fanless design and a few extra bits like 4k upscaling, but it does smack of spec chasing to some degree, since not may of us have screens that can deal with 4k anyway!

The only review I've seen of the 4K output was on a Sony VW1000 projector and the conclusion was that the 4K upscaling wasn't as good as that built into the projector... I don't know if there would really be any improvement in the picture quality on a 1080p display anyway as the 93 and 95 are reference anyway: You can't make it any more sharper/better colours/motion than it already is. In fact for 1080/24p my previous budget Sony BluRay player didn't look any different once calibrated on my projector setup: Some players have sharpness settings that can't be defeated, which might give a 'different' picture, but whether it's an improvement is another matter.

There have been a few 93s and 95s for sale in the classifieds on AVForums recently, can't recall the pricing though. I got a good deal on mine 18 months ago because I bought some calibration equipment at the same time.
