Been looking at getting a connect for the front room and then an amp for the kitchen/dining room.
I'm wondering if a couple of play 1s would fit the bill for the kitchen/dining area

Really tempted by a pair of these,

Have a connect wired into my 7.1 av system, and a couple of play3s (office/kitchen) currently.

About to move in with gf into her smaller house, the 7.1 system won't suit. So looking at playbar and was going to use the play3s as rears, but they are too big. Connect was heading for the bedroom she is giving me for an office, with a pair of my castle rears and an arcam amp. If I put the plays in bedroom/her workroom we're good to go with playbar and 2 play1s....

Interested in group buy.

Simes.

I also be interested in the group buy, currently looking at getting 2 x 1's to add to the rest of my system but I'm also half thinking about a playbar or a 5.

I am waiting to hear what Sonos can offer me, but I have the OK from PH to offer it.

Pre-ordered one to play with, partly to see how the system compares to my Squeezebox setup that the OH finds too clunky to bother with and partly as I neglected to buy myself a birthday present.

I gather that this might be a slippery slope... hehe
I have (now boxed) a couple of Squeezebox Booms and a Radio.

Now replaced with a couple of Play 5's, a Play 3, and a Connect.

No way I would ever go back to the Squeeze setup. Lovely sound but such a faff to use, even once you've set them up. You won't regret it.

One nice feature of the Play 1 is the button (replaces Mute) to pause, play, and skip forward a track, which is lacking on the 3 & 5. One feature I'd still prefer is to have buttons to skip back as well as forward, saving the first world problem of looking for your phone / tablet.

Didn't VEX solve that by buying a £35 tablet or summat?

Never did fully understand what VEX was on about, something about totally bypassing your wifi network and exclusively using the Sonos Mesh network. How you then stream Spotify etc beats me! smile

To be fair my phone is nearly always on me and my iFad never far away (when at home).

OOOH Just discovered a feature, having read a Play 1 review, thought I'd try it out on one of my 5's. A double tap of the Mute button skips to the next track. Handy!

Perfect, can use that in my home office and also take it away with me for use with the iPad on holiday.
Eeerrrmmmm No that won't work, Not unless you have a network connection or router you can plug it into. Sonos needs a network connection to get its IP Address and for the ipad app to talk through.

D'OH! Forgot about that. Back to the Bluetooth speaker idea then. Will still get a couple of these for the office though.
Does the Play1 have an aux input? You could use it with that for on holiday, couldn't you?
bugger, no aux input, was thinking the same.

But you would still need an internet connection to stream Spotify etc.

Phone as a source with its own internet connection (mobile network), wifi connected to router which is ethernet connected to Sonos.

Do you know when you're likely to hear? Definitely in for a couple of Play 1's here and holding off buying direct from SONOS for now! biggrin

A daft question VEX but I assume that a second Bridge cannot be used to extend the Sonos wifi mesh network?

Assuming not, can you offer the Play 1's even cheaper WITHOUT the included Bridges, for those of us with them already?

Thought I read somewhere that each device extends the network.

Yep just read on Sonos Support that you can do that.

nick s - I am pushing my sonos rep at the moment, he promised a call today but hasn't yet. I want to offer it with a worth will saving and trying to get the bridges stripped out to save a little more money.

Digger - Yes you can use the bridges a part of the mesh to extend the network, what we tend to do is wired into an area that we know could be used as a boost point and put a bridge there on the wired side of the network.

Yeah, my roaming bill already averages about £1600 a month, I am sure streaming Spotify through it would really help.

Offline mode sorts that out.
