Hang on! Just in the process of setting it all up (playbar, sub and surround 1s)

Does the playbar act as a bridge to other components so I don't need to keep the bridge? So instead of router to bridge and bridge to playbar I just do router to playbar? And playbar can send sound to sub/surround 1s plus speakers in other rooms?

You need the bridge to make it all wireless.

I thought you only needed the bridge if none of the components were hardwired? Otherwise any plugged in via ethernet would function as a bridge.

Exactly what I read, apparently if you could even just wire a play1 to router, and this is sufficient to connect up to 31 Sonos components wirelessly?

Only asking as no one above pointed out I was possibly being a numpty, so making sure I have it right before removing the bridge, which would at least save a few cables

Yep, I have my Playbar plugged into my router and the rest work wirelessly without a Bridge.

Thanks, yes done the same now so that is two bridges heading to eBay then.

Sound is great but need to figure out whether I am getting 5.1 from my TV to my playbar via the optical cable, which is a struggle right now

You can see what the input is by going to Settings or Help > About my Sonos System. Find the Playbar and it lists Audio in:

I've got Virgin Media find that most (all?) SD content is 2.0 and HD channels give 5.1. Can also check by putting a DVD on

Hmmm mine showing stereo at the moment, whilst watching Man of Steel on Sky Action HD. Sure I have heard sound come solely from rear R and L channels (Play 1 speakers) on other HD channels

Would those who have Sonos, rather have a Play 5 or 2x Play 1s? I'm gonna buy one or the other at the moment. Considered a 5 and a 1, but then thought that it might be overkill to jump in with both.

couple of questions for those with soundbar and surround

1. do you find the volume of the soundbar set via the TV or sky remote goes out of sync?

2. what wall brackets are using for play 1s? Flexson seem to have the only product but at £55 its a bit of a rip

The 5 sounds much better then the one. The ones work very well in a very small room and as surrounds order the 5 for now.

I would set the tv to external speakers then they can't go out of sync.

Is far as I am aware flexon are the only company that makes stands/brackets.

thanks but did that, and synced the remotes, and set soundbar volume such that 20 was perfect, then sometimes it is as though the volume drifts and I need 40 to get same volume, even allowing for variations between channels and live vs recorded sky (this is all via sky btw). Sometimes taking vlume down to zero then back up seems to solve, sometimes I need to adjust volume on the side of the soundbar itself

looks like Flexson it is then

I need to look at my Play:1's but I think they are a bog standard 1/4 or 3/4" thread.

If they are then Monitor Audio do some very nice ones that will fit.

You may have a fault there call the place you got it and suggest they contact sonos and get you to submit the diagnostics.

Hi Adam,

I am genuinely not trying to body swerve this happy to get involved.

But have you spoken to Sonos support? Their support is one of the best I have ever come across and set up for retail support. If you do have a faulty one, they are super at sending out replacements for you.

Free call from the uk as well.

Let me know how you get on.
