so i can have say a play 3 directly connected along with the bridge and then other 2 play 1s working wirelessly?
The bridge serves as a point of connection between your network/internet connection and the Sonos devices. If you have a Play:3, 2 Play:1s and a bridge, connect the bridge to the net and the rest will run wirelessly.
Unless you want the option of moving the Play 3 about and using it wirelessly sometimes (plug excepted!)

Does anyone have a full 5.1 sonos setup?
I was thinking of going that route due to the layout of my new home...
My question is, if you pair 2 Play:1's as rear speakers can you then only use them as part of he whole set or could you still choose to play music through them only?
im guessing you can pair them and add to its own room..?I was thinking of going that route due to the layout of my new home...

strange, so if i had 2x play 1's and a play 5 in living room,
play 1 in bedroom,
play 1 in kitchen
play 1 in study,
play 3 in bedroom 2
can i not have bedrooms 1 and 2 setup to play together, play music on all rooms, play music in each room individually?
You misunderstand what I'm saying. play 1 in bedroom,

play 3 in bedroom 2

You can group speakers together, separate them and play the same / different music at will.
What I can't seem to do is drop the Play 1s from the surround (5.1) setup easily, just to play music - so we end up with music out of the full 5.1 setup.

Thanks, that's what I was asking.
Pity... was hoping to be able to turn the rear play:1's which will be in an archway between living room and kitchen, to play in the kitchen only when needed.
You CAN, but you appear to have to disassociate them from the 5.1 - then pair them, then re-add them to the 5.1Pity... was hoping to be able to turn the rear play:1's which will be in an archway between living room and kitchen, to play in the kitchen only when needed.
I may have missed a trick... Vex?
You can either drop the Play-1s from the 5.1 and set as separate room (complete phaff) and then re-add for 5.1 when you want them OR, use the more recently added option of using them for music playback in 'full' mode (room settings, advanced audio, surround settings, music playback - full). This just means they play music at proper volume through the P1s but the rest of the 5.1 system (ie sub and bar) still plays the music too.
Quite possible there's another option but I'm also to lazy to read the manual

I seem to have 1 play:1 which is far more bass heavy than the other two..
I'm guessing it's due to wear it's sited, we have a unit in the kitchen sat on granite and one in the bedroom sat on a solid pine chest of drawers.
The bass monster is sat on the floor (carpet) on the ground floor of a 1930s semi.. It's also in the edge of an alcove (albeit an alcove about 3.5ft wide by about 12-18 inches deep..
It's not a big problem, it lifts the dub nicely, but it is a touch heavy at times..
Any thoughts?

Have you got "Loudness" turned on on the bass heavy one? ("Note: The loudness setting boosts certain frequencies, including bass, to improve the sound at low volume.")
