Just paid 479 for a playbar too, that was cheapest I could find on the bay.

Anyone got a preference for play 3s or 1s with a playbar? Not sure if the 3s i have will end up being too bassy.
I have play 1's with the playbar and it is more than enough smile

Hi all... After reading here I ordered a Playbar from Amazon.es. 5 days later it arrived, £458.94 including delivery.

Hi all
I listened to a Sonos Play 5 in a store today as I am thinking about a new set up for my house. I must say I wasn't very impressed at all. It seemed very tinny with no warmth to it. Do you think this was a bad experience or are the really not very good. I really don't expect a great deal out of something that big but I have an old Marley docking station here at present that cost me £150 and will blow it out of the water. The soundar sounded great but the play 5 terrible.
Cheers
Mike

They don't sound very good, and I am surprised they sell so well tbh.

Everything other than the sound quality of their own speakers is very good though. Which means connects or connect amps with decent speakers are a good solution.

Thanks for your reply. That's those out then. Back to the drawing board I think.

It's the Play 3 that's the runt of the litter imho. Sounds very weak compared with 1 & 5.
Paired 1's in stereo provide a far better sound field than my single 5.

I will be playing with a Denon Heos system soon to compare it to the Sonos play:1

The new app looks like a big step in the right direction so I'll let you know my thoughts.

I'm hoping amazon have some deals on the "prime day" tomorrow.

I want to buy two or three Play 1's and a Sonos connect.

Tweeted them to ask if there were any Sonos promotions but they wouldn't say.

I now have 7 Play 1's around the home and I have to say I love them. I was planning to go for a 3 or 5 but just couldn't see a massive benefit when I have a stereo pair in the sitting room, 1 in the kitchen, 1 in the den, 1 in each of my 2 children's rooms and 1 in ours (didn't bother with the guest bedroom as barely used)

If I want to I can just bring the 3 downstairs for a party and have a stereo pair in 3 rooms and an extra one elsewhere.

They are so diverse when set up like this and I have music on so much more than when we had CDs or Ipods.

We often have different music playing in different rooms/floors at different volumes, so it just makes sense and as I always have my phone on me the controls are always close by :-)

I have also not paid full RRP on anything other than the first 2, the rest have been £140-£155, not a massive saving but worth having nonetheless.

Richer Sounds have been my source for all 7.

sheesh, thats an odd outcome. I suspect some dodgy positioning.
The playbar really isn't very good for music and thats quite widely thought. The Play 5 for me is the best and the Play 1 and 3 sound awful and tinny. If anything the play 5 can be a bit warm dependent on the surface it is put on.

I know lots of people swear by the Play 1, but in shop listening (prior to buying my Play 5's), to me, sounds like a 1970's pocket transistor radio. I have 3 play 5's and a connect, but currently considering a play 1 for the summerhouse in the garden on the grounds that it surely can't sound as bad as it does in the shops and that the fanboys are right.

We have Play 1s dotted around the house. Can't say they sound tinny - but they do all sit on solid oak furniture.

We've also got a Connect:Amp that drives a bathroom speaker, and just acquired another to drive a couple in the new kitchen.

I'd agree about the soundbar not being great for music - they really could do with a quick "uncheck" to the rear surrounds or playbar when you come to use them for music.

Update 5.4 has also got a few tweeks for using Play 1s with the Sub.

You really need to listen to a pair of stereo Play 1's at home. I have two 5's in separate rooms now swapped out for two pairs of 1's. Far better sonically primarily because of the stereo separation but bass and clarity are as good if not better than a Single 5.

just the matte finish methinks.
