Thank for the vote of confidence.

The margins on Sonos are really tight especially the Play:1's so I offer the best I can to PH members and the deal is still open.

Might try to do something with the New Play:5 when it becomes available.

Playbar, sub, 4x Play1 and 2x Connect amps... so far.

Happy to recommend Vex - always had good service and very happy.

Re 1: yeah easy to change bass treble balance (paired speakers) within Settings . . . Room Settings. . .

. . . . errr well it's always been the case for the last few years but just checking in my iOS iPad and android apps there is no option within Settings for this now!

What the hell!?

4. I have my Router in the Lounge. I have taken the play to the Kitchen where I have a Powerline extender (wireless) cloned to my router. I can not have the Sonos App connect to the Play5 unless I am in the kitchen / on the Powerline 'broadcast'. Surely that is wrong? ?
I found the same, it's really annoying frown

Oh-

If that's the case then it really is a deal breaker

I have two 'zones' in the house.

If there's no continuity between them ? It's bye bye (at this price I would expect it slicker)
Can't say I have an issue. Router and bridge in the study at the far side of the house - Sonos kit in the lounge, dining room, kitchen and bathroom.

Not had a dropout since we first got some over 2 years ago.

Aah. one of my Controllers was running the Beta 6. Apparently all Controllers need to be running the same Controller version for Settings to be consistent!

and therein lies the problem I suspect.
Funny shaped house and the use of different Wifi Repeaters / Powerlines make the Wifi network in my house.
As I said previously, the Sonos bridge lives in the study - at the far corner of the house. At the opposite end of the house lies the majority of the Sonos kit. We also use Play1s in the garden - so at least 40ft away from the bridge.

Perhaps because you're using wifi repeaters rather than a bridge is causing the issue? The bridge gives Sonos its own wifi network.

Doesn't it create a mesh network? So in effect each device becomes a 'repeater' in it's own right? (it certainly works like that in my house)

Mmmm, well that (the Mesh network) ^^^ would help out for sure if I went the way I am thinking of Three units.

One in the extent of each leg of the L-Shape barn conversion, and One in the middle central room.
A punt to take on that though frown
Are you using the bridge, a Sonos Boost, or just the units themselves?

Your problem is relying on the house wifi, rather than swapping over to the Sonos Mesh Network, but to do this you need at least one sonos device wired to the router.

From there on the music with hope through sonos devices to get to the chosen player.

(PS I have about 6 bridges on the shelf for just this reason in my installs)

Boost

So easy to set up and really pleased with the sound quality (just running spotify and deezer so far)

Ok- would plugging in to the Ethernet port of the Powerline be sufficient ?
That should work fine

Yes, that should help dramatically.

But it could also cause problems if you have already set it up on wifi.

On larger systems I have problems when the network drops, wifi kicks in, but then when it comes back for some reason the wifi stays on and things get stuck in a massive loop, killing the network.

With respect, and while I don't really rate Sonos for sound quality, it really does just work and has a vey good ui.

You are doing something wrong if you can't make it work. It is installed in millions of homes worldwide and works. I have probably setup hundreds myself and short of user error have never had an issue of any kind

Sorry guys. I'm out.

What a clunky lumpy unresponsive pile of cack.

I walked in to the kitchen tonight, on the same Wifi repeater as the Play5. Could it find it? Could it fk.
I could do a whole Pete&Dud sketch on it but have not the energy.

So in you views the Powerline Ethernet is the best way ?
So I pull out all the plugs and that where it is, and hook it up.

Could it work ? No.

So a new set up instead perhaps.... the fking lump of white ste just can not set itself up.
I've set up other peoples before, a button on the top, a handshake and away.

This? It asking me to unhook from my wifi to find the 'Sonos' wifi temporarily. and nothing. Nada.
And the set up software is that dumb, you are then locked in.

Killed the App. rebooted the Wifi.
Rebooted the iPad.

i thought this stuff 'just works'? ?
So. meanwhile I have just used the nice Spotify purpose built App to BT stream to my Sony Soundbar.
That just works.

So unimpressed
Just read the post above about "borrowing a mate's play 5"

I took one of my dad's from his network and it fked my whole set up. I think you need to factory reset before adding to a different network. Power off and switch on with finger on the mute button until it changes colour. After hours pissing around I did this and it all worked perfectly, and I could add to my network very easily.

OK - google how to reset it as i can't remember what colour it needs to turn (it takes about 10 seconds after putting the power back in)

I have some issues moving round the house every now and then as we have dodgy wifi and multiple access points. always resolved by closing the app on my phone (either my Blackberry with android app running, or my wife's iPhone)

you are correct that you can only use spottily through the songs app, but you can play songs stored locally on your phone - again only accessible from the Sonos app.
