Hi All
Am in process of house renovation and electrician wants plan of where I want the switches, sockets, etc.tomorrow! I am also requesting they put in tv points and ethernet points
Does anyone have any tips on what to consider please?
It will be 4 bed house when loft conversion is done and I wondered if there might be probs if I have a tv point and ethernet point in each room, e.g splitting tv signal and bt line .....
For the last 5 years I have watched tv on laptop in bed and am not sure what can be achieved nowadays..
Thanks for any advice

Firstly you need to decide where you can locate some central kit to create a hub, needs to be large enough to house a small fridge and be relatively cool. You may need to add ventilation subject to what goes there but we can get to that later. You may not need anything like that much space but without more information better plan for anything. You need a bit of help and it may take a while to ground out exact requirements but the following will get you going;

Music?

Run two speaker cables from hub to ceilings / walls dependant on the type of audio solution you want.

TV

Run a pair of coax cables (WF100/CT100) plus minimum two CAT5e from the hub to TV locations, either low level to support freestanding or table top TV, or the wall for a wall mounted one. Each pair of cables goes to a single socket. For the record we run 2xWF100, 1xCAT6 & 3xCAT5e but we tend to cover all bases just in case. If you do this run all data to a double box.

Data & Telephone

Run a pair of CAT5e from the hub to all likely phone, computer and wireless access point locations. Basically any location where wired Ethernet or phone may be required.

From the Hub

Five WF100 to roof for satellite / UHF. If you can't get BT installed at the hub then run a couple of CAT5e from the hub to the location where BT enters the property. If you want to cover Virgin run a couple of RG6 as well.

Most importantly

Don't forget power and call in a proper AV company... The above are the very basics for AV and data but there are so many ways to ccensoredk up it's not worth the risk. With a sensible cable solution you free yourself to do anything and make the property work for you, otherwise you'll be on forums constantly looking for 'fixes' to things you could have avoided.

Thanks all very much for your guidance. Have posted an update on the Homes and gardens forum section. Thought I had better not duplicate!
