Here's a pic for you of work done for a customer (before the ducts/conduits were nailed into place), it was a basic TV wall mount and lounge refurb, there is twin cables for Sky, TV aerial, duct for HDMI cables and a power supply. We chased, installed ducts and cables then they had a plaster patch in, once decorated no cables and you wouldn't know anyone had been near it! The ring main was extended for the power supply but theres nothing really wrong with a spur if you do it properly, I'd normally recommend installing a switch fused spur at low level on the ring main then out to the TV position as you can then turn the supply to TV off easily.

The double socket was because they also had a sound bar mounted under the TV.. so something else to consider! Sound bars are great if you buy a decent high end one, you can easily mount on a TV bracket with special brackets or mount to the wall.

Also emphasises the importance of the ducts... they could add cables in the future as they had no real idea what they wanted at the time of installation.

Possibly not quite for this thread but with an ageing population blahblahblah why the heck are plug sockets by the floor unless it's for 'the look' rather than accessibility, it's a load of old bks and a PITA.

Your picture shows sensible wiring, years ago we had a gas fire installed with waist height switches and controls, I just shake my head when I see the FIL struggling, crawling around on the floor in his 80's to turn a gas fire on and off unless anyone has an idea round this on "old pre installed" kit

dumb question time - for front satellite speakers aren't the 2 below somewhat too high?

Yes. I'm pretty sure the consensus is to have them at ear level. I can see they're pointing down but still...

As front's then they might be a bit high, but as front height speakers combined with floor standing fronts, then they're fine.

I really like the idea of a floating wall / fake chimney in our lounge when we extend / refurb - why the need for so much wood in the structure though? (DIY idiot here).
Sorry for the delay

The reason we used 4x2 was #1 to get the correct spacing so the mount+screen was flush and #2 8x4 19mm MDF is fairly weighty and wanted something substantial to mount to

Clients request. Mainly due to the size of the speakers he chose. he wanted to use the system for music as well as the cinema and went for them.

If you look at the photo, if the left speaker was mounted at the right height it would impede the window as the wall is very slim there.

I made my opinion on this known and that the speakers should be lower but he said "they sort of disappear up there"

All good but how can you plan for soemthing when the walls are being made and you dont know what TV and speakers you will be having.

And how do you account for the short plug wires most TVs have - I am guessing you extend the socker wire inside the wall?

My concern is doing a setup which is then hard to change without hacking away the wall - I suppsoe it would make sense to make a stud in front of the main stud wall for easy access.
