Try a factory reset, sometimes it'll sort it

Procedure...

To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down VCR/DVR, press ON/STANDBY. “Clear” will appear on the display and the AV receiver will enter standby mode.

My wife blew my 705 one night.

I sent it back to them for repair at their place in Swindon.

They sent it back a week later fixed FOC!

I'll definitely be buying another when the time comes.

It's the HDMI board, mine went recently and had to be replaced. Resets worked for a bit but the symptoms came back, RTB was the only solution. Apparently they have cooling issues

My guess is it is.

They use Citylink for back and forth couriering, without transit insurance. I had to go to a final warning of legal action to get progress.

When I did though, they came up with a satisfactory conclusion after speaking to the MD, who in the end was very personable and excellent.

I've had an 809. Nice unit. I guess £500 worth.

When I was negotiating with them, it does seem that they can get Onkyo stock very heavily discounted. You may be able to negotiate yourself into a better unit. The 1010 is a better unit. That said, that range is being heavily discounted from time to time, you may be able to put a little bit in and get something like the 3010.

That's interesting.

Perhaps they've moved from Citylink after the experience with me!

They packed my 50kg power amp not in the box I sent it in but an old Amazon box which predictably fell apart.

My 818 has failed with the common HDMI / Network issue which seems to be plaguing 2009-2012 units. Covered by the extension program they've just launched & was picked up by DPD yesterday, in it's original packaging. Hopefully they manage to not butcher mine, incidentally Genserve aren't handling this one - it's going to LetMeRepair in Scotland this time.

Onkyo's quality needs to come up a notch, I had a 606 prior to this which also had a failed HDMI board at about 18 months old which was repaired by Genserve (with no issues), not sure I'm keen to spend more money with them in the future - they're an expensive piece of kit & 2 out of 2 failures isn't good, which is a shame as when they're working I'm a big fan.

My NR609 has gone the same way at 28 months old as well, sent it off under Onkyos recall program, took nearly 3 weeks for them to come pick it up, a week later Letmerepairit call, "the unit is faulty it doesn't power up we cant fix it.". well it did when it left my house, their response: "It must have got damaged in transit......" Then genserve call up " LMRI tell us your unit needs a repair do you want us to fix it?" for the second time I explain that it was powering up fine when it left my house only since its been at LMRI has it had a problem and I am not paying to fix a problem it had in transit that Onkyo arranged. Then I try getting in touch with Onkyo......... It seams the only way is via Facebook, that was 2 weeks ago, I had a reply that they were looking into it but nothing more. Right now I have no idea where it is, who's dealing with it or any way to get in touch with them apart from the odd Facebook message and no idea when/if it will come back. Joy.

Thanks for that, as if by magic I just got a message via face book today, that I need to contact genserve so they can collect the unit. I will wait and find out what the damage is first I think before taking it further. You never know it might just be something daft like a popped fuse!

Well just a quick update: Genserve called Amp is.....FIXED!! turns it was an internal fuse on the power supply so they swapped it over updated the firmware gave it clean and sent it back to me. All free of charge! clap So it is now back in the rack working as well as ever, only downside is that the sub woofer popped at the same time the amp did, of course we couldn't tell so have only just found this... but that has been fixed and should be back this weekend.

Its looking like we had some sort Electrical issue in the whole house around that time, A socket in the kitchen blew (smoke sparks the works! yikes) the amp and sub went pop and since then a HDD in my NAS died and the power supply on our iMac went pop all within 2 months. Before anyone says "surge protector!" everything is on surge protectors and the iMac plugged into a UPS as well. And yes a sparky is going to take a look at the house very soon....

so how are the repaired Onkyo's getting on? and any more experiences with the service companies?
