I have the Sonos soundbar sitting right in front of my tv on the cabinet. I don't think it looks at all ugly. In fact I think it looks quite good!

I have a Philips Fidelo soundbar which sits infront of my TV and does not block the remote window. It sounds wonderful, looks great and has detachable speaker pods for decent surround sound. An attractive wireless sub woofer and great connection options from HDMI through the Bluetooth for music. A What Hi Fi product winner too. Well worth the money and a high quality soundbar.
Waiting in anticipation to receive this very same system today. At what height are you setting the wireless rear speaker's at? I'm not sure whether to buy dedicated stands or just plonk them down on odd bits of furniture.

My Philips cost me £250 in US dollars and is sitting about 20 cms off of the ground in a glass and aluminium stand. It looks amazing, gives off a vey rich sound, along with the amazingly useful removable speaker ends cannot be beaten. HDMI and other slots on the back for everything and a wonderful remote too. Shop around for one in the UK.
